RE: Covid Treatments2 Oct 2021 11:44
Morning all,
Any therapeutic that works is great news for mankind and cannot be criticised, it would be outrageous to do so . One must however look at the target audience and what the impact will be.
Of course there are headline grabbing statements that it reduces hospitalisations by 50 % but 50 % of who ?
The target criteria of this trial is to have a heart condition , be obese , have diabetes etc. Secondly and very important you have to commence treatment within five days of contracting coronavirious.
So for those that fit the criteria for taking this drug that means a massive increase in testing. If this drug becomes available and you knew it might be of benefit to you and you were at high risk of becoming seriously ill , what would you do immediately , personally at the first sign of a tickle in the throat or a cough I would be taking a pcr test. I can only see this increasing pcr testing dramatically. No way if you could potentially take this drug would you wait and see what happens nor opt for an LFT test.
The 50 % reduction in hospitalisations is a headline grabber ,it is 50 % of a small subset of people , BUT a subset of those identified as most at risk.
I am no medical expert at all but having been triallled on a such a small cohert of people this will never be a treatment for the masses it needs extensive testing. This treatment has to be administered early pre hospitalisation and therefore will only be effective to any degree if there is watertight testing regularily of those who could benefit from this drug. A lot of people have no symptoms by day five , this is were a q32 in a care home with residents tested weekly for example really could help save lives. For those others at high risk a weekly pcr test whilst community levels of covid are high should be the next logical test step.
I cannot comment on all the scientific papers regarding disruption to cells and mutations as I am not medical. It is however interesting that participants in the trial had to refrain from activities that could result in pregnancy.
