A wholesale shake up of the system is required.
I worked in the actuarial side of life and pensions companies. It always struck me that there was a conflict of interest for auditors when they were paid by the companies that they audited and their ongoing engagement was decided by shareholders. In big companies large accounting firms are used where much of the work is done by juniors who have little option other than following orders, compromising the individual auditors impartiality.
I will be shot down for this but why not a fractional increase in corporation tax with the proceeds used to pay the fees of auditors randomly appointed so that there is no temptation to ingratiate themselves with the companys management?

To be honest mate I'm not a big football fan, but do enjoy the highlights on MOTD. I think the team I have seen most 'live' is Swindon Town with work colleagues when I lived down there working for Nationwide. But I have friends who talk about little else so have gradually got a bit more into it of late and now kind of 'get it'. I admit I just had to Google the Terriers, but now I know which team you support I have to commiserate with you for your season!

I too log into LSE first thing each day for any RNS. Do you also follow on Twitter? Its kind of against my inner Victor Meldrew, but I took VanVans advice and have not regretted it. They often post things like photos, links to interviews and other things that don't warrant an RNS.

Do I feel confident enough to average down? Hmmmm!!! I feel I hold more promising shares than this, I thought that VANL would be good exposure to the HS2 millions. Not working out. At least they have retained a dividend, albeit reduced.

The only thing I don't like at the moment is that I was planning to buy an additional 'nice round number' of shares towards the end of January. That is beginning to look expensive

I've spotted a new share price trend. I used to think it went up and down with PoO. It seems now that it goes up and down depending whether the AM is chugging or not

This may well be provision for a staff scheme, not BOD necessarily. The vast majority of quoted companies use Share Option Schemes to incentivise and retain staff, it is one thing that you miss out on if you work for the public sector (but you do get a cracking pension!). The recipients of the shares will eventually pay for them at the price (subject to discounts that are allowed by HMRC) that they were when put into treasury. This is normal. Do we want a motivated workforce or not?
