Coming off the worst month of the year stocks slipped in mixed trading the DJI falling 74 weighed by falls in oil and gas as crude gave back some of its early summer gains.
More than 75% of the 500 fell but gains in 'big tech' up 122 supported the indexes. Wall has broadly given back 40% of gains since July, belatedly realising rates will stay higher for longer. Yields on the 10yr rose to 4•683% making them an attractive alternate to risky stocks.
Tesla reported poor 3Q delivery numbers of 435,000 versus a consensus 465,000. Stock u/c at $252. On the big board top 30 United Health led followed by Apple, Msoft and Cisco. Going down 3M, Big Mac and Boeing ($190) which just announced a sale of 30 (787-10 Widebody) planes to Air Canada. Stock 3% down ytd.
Regardless the economy is defying doomsayers predictions of a recession as consumers cont to spend cautiously in a strong jobs market leaving the S&P up 12% this year and 2246 points off its historic high last seen Jan 4, 2022.
Morning all.
