Another quiet week for investors as buyers stayed away on low volume trading just 40,100 MSi traded. Not surprising given global uncertainties and the war in occupied West Gaza. I think a Santa Rally is out of the question unless by some miracle a solution is found in the ME.

MSi eased 10 on the week but ytd are up 10%. The all share is down 3% the 100 off 2% and Aim down 19% on the year.

Hotter than expected US GDP of 4•9% in Q3 sent stocks to the cleaners. All the major indexes suffered falls particularly the Nsdq which fell 272 points into correction territory. The predicted 'soft' landing for the US economy was bolstered by some signs of cooling inflation and lower bond yields.

Consumer spending confirmed the trend of a resilient economy jumping 4% for the Q as consumers went on a shopping spree. Consumer spend accounted for c.68% of GDP in Q3. Oils settled at their lowest level in 2 weeks and gold was flat at 1989.

Asia is mired in a sea of red this morning after the sell off on the 'Street' overnight. Disappointing earnings reports and the imminent incursion by ground troops into Gaza weighed on investors. Not a single bourse across the Far East and Pacifica is in the black.

A surge in t/bill yields which have been rising since summer and the Nsdq slumping to a closing 5 month low had dealers dumping stocks from mid'day. Despite many calling the Nsdq well over extended the 100 is 31% ahead on the year followed by a 9% gain on the 500 index. On the 'big board' just 10/30 are in the plus column while Intel ($33) off 5% prop up the 20 losers, 10 of which are down over 2% on the session.

Morning all.

US stocks closed higher over night as bond yields stabilised and investors cheered strong earnings from GE, Coca Cola, Spotify and 3M. Msoft and Google will report 3Q nos after the bell. The Dow closed up 204 snapping a 4 day losing run and 30% of the S&P 500 will be reporting this week. Also out will be 3Q GDP nos expected to accelerate to 4•3% up from 2•3% last time.

In a surprise move the Japanese Govt is considering spending $33bn for pay outs to low-income households in a packet of measures to cushion the the blow from rising living costs. In HK and Shanghai stocks we're spurred on by rare fiscal measures from Beijing to address the ongoing severe liquidity crisis in the domestic property market as well as to stem the mrkts sell off.

Haf year nos will be out shortly but in these febrile times you cannot be certain as to how investors will react. I think its unlikely we will see any Xmas or New Year rally, because mrkts are highly unpredictable you can never be certain which way they will swing.

Talk of the ME situation dragging on for the next 6-12 months will give succour to short sellers who have been on the wrong side of markets since July '22. Whether in the coming months we will see the bears come out of the woods to seek recompense I don't know.

I'm happy to be invested in a company that is growing revenues and gaining global exposure for its products. In my book that's the very least MSi can do for investors. Remember during times of war defence stocks do well for holders.

That may or may not happen and if the mrkt ignores the nos so be it, i won't lose any sleep.

A year ago the shares traded at 66 valuing the company at c.£44m. Much has happened since though looking at the sp you wouldn't think so. In receipt of cash from the sale of Jet Air

the company balance sheet has been improved out of all recognition, most importantly we're debt free and holders can look forward to a cash distribution of 55p almost the sp of the Co a year ago. Doubters will point to selling our most profitable division will put considerable strain on the Co finances going forward as we deplete cash in Bank. Regardless I much prefer to have that problem than being back at 50 where we traded in early October.

Most Asian & Pacifica mrkts are lower (HK is closed) following broadly negative cues from global mrkts on Friday. The Nikkei fell below the 31,100 level on exporters and tech selling. Sydney is off 60 to 12 month lows led by declines in energy and miners.

Dow and Ftse futures call a modest rise in share prices to start wk 43. In London Banks will be reporting Q3 earning nos.

Irrevocable undertakings have already been rec'd for 50•3% so the deal will go through.

At the very least one should hold for the 55p dividend (worth £35•2m) so to speak and worry about the lease obligations later. Current sp/value supported by the net proceeds equivalent to c.128p and a mrkt cap of £52m.

Morning all.

One should approach share price forecasts with caution particularly when more than 12 months into the future. Any nos further out have a deal of wishful thinking in the mix. I think WB got it right when he said " I haven't the faintest idea whether stocks will be higher or lower a week, a month or a year from now"

For instance in MSi's case I have seem a 52 wk forecast of 915p and a 5yr of 1670p. I'd dismiss the 5yr immediately as a total nonsense. Barring the 'unforseen' a forecast of 900 makes sense to me given the board have likely indicated to Shore Cap their views and Shore would have done the math on future cash flows etc. Also the shares have been over 800 recently.

I use momentum indicators, chart patterns but only to look at, moving averages, oversolds and gut feeling. I intend to start from my next purchase with a 50 share buy and cont buying in 50 lots (each trade must show a profit) before adding another 50. If my judgement is right I will cont to buy until the sp hits 900p. If one stage fails I won't sell, i'll wait and reassess.

Ive used this method before unfortunately my timing was out on that occasion and would have been well down had I sold. Nevertheless to date I'm showing a profit, not a big profit but one thats easily beating the UK mrkt nos and inflation.
