High Street jobs plunge to a record low and investors dumping UK stocks at fastest pace for 20 years are two of the city headlines this morning. In the latest blow to the City a BOA survey of 165 fund managers found they are 20% underweight in British stocks. The swing downwards in sentiment represented the bigest shift out of UK shares since 2004 and the second largest in the survey's history.

Shadow business secretary Griffith said: Investors are selling out of Britain at the same time as wealth creators are leaving. Under Rachel Reeves the tide is going out and leaving the economy parched of skills and investment.

Finally the CBI in a recent report called for bold reforms to revitalise the stock market to save it from drifting into irrelevance as more companies are switching their listings to NY.

Wall Street's 3 main indexes ended the day lower as caution set in ahead of an anticipated 25 bp rate cut today. Data that showed US retail sales increased more than expected in August did little to change rate cut hopes. Six of the 11 S&P 500 sectors ended lower on the session.

The CBOE volatility index climbed to its highest level in a week (16•36) and over the last 52wks ranges from 13 to 60. The Vix index functions as an emotional barometer, low nos (15) signifying mrkt calmness & confidence while (30+) fear and uncertainty.

Stocks on the move inc Nvidia & UH both heading down which weighed on the Dow Index. Leading the 11 gainers Chevron, Amazon & Cat while Travellers, Salesforce & Msoft propped up the laggards. Bigest riser was Webtoon Entertainment soaring 40% after a deal with Disney to create a new digital comics platform was inked in.

Oracle put on $2 at $304 after an intra-day high of $320 when China & the US agreed a deal to keep TIKTOK the video app operating in the US. The 500 posted 15 new 52 wk highs and 13 new lows on 17•11bn traded.

Morning all.

London's Aim mrkt has seen the nos of firms listing nearly double this year. Some 16 firms listed on Aim through IPO's in the year to July compared to 9 last year.

The average amount of new cash raised per listing was £9•9m. Colin Wright chairman of UHY Hacker Young said "we are seeing the green shoots of recovery in the Aim mrkt." That should give confidence to other companies considering a listing.

Some talk about splitting msi stock on a 10 for 1 basis to increase liquidity. I agree with WB a high value share price tends to filter out spec activity and attracts long-term committed shareholders. I certainly would vote against any split.

Berkshire Hathaway class A shares (1•44m issued) have never been split and trade around $745,000 a share. There are 2•16bn class B shares in issue trading at $495 a share.

Been in business as a private company since 2008.

Agreed it's too close for comfort can't understand why the 2 companies haven't agreed a name change between themselves? I guess we have been operational longer than the US company so it should be down to them to come up with an alternative.

Stocks are mostly higher at the start of wk 38 trading in the Far East. Tokyo which is up a respectable 12% this year is closed for a local holiday having added 396 on Friday to (44,768) some 100 points off and all-time high.

Back in 1950 the 225 traded at 94.

In Sydney the ASX200 fell to a days low of 8790 in morning trade with weakness across most sectors led by miners and tech stocks. An afternoon rally saw buyers returning pushing the index back above 8850. Among the actives WiseTech Global (AUD 97) is up 3•5% on news founder Richard White has sold 1•24m shares since Aug worth c.$123m. He retains 36% of the available stock.

South Korea which has been the outstanding bourse this year (up 42%) has gained in 9 straight sessions surging more than 250 points to new record highs this morning at (3417). Stocks in HK and Shanghai are solidly ahead in morning trade with Shanghai gaining over 2% in the last 2 sessions. While in KL, Singapore & Jakarta are all trading near record highs but little interest today.

Morning all.

Ireland threw away a semi final place in the Women's World Cup. It now remains for Eng to beat Scot to give the home nations a place into the last 4. C'mon Eng!!!

It seems the board have decided to concentrate on our defence businesses for future growth. Our MSi-DS Terrahawk LS gun system under the UK's Sky Sabre advanced SHORAD system for modern threats could be a real long-term winner given its multi applications & capabilities.

The competition for orders is fierce. For instance Romania has agreed with Israel to purchase c.$2•3bn of their anti aircraft systems. An order of that magnitude would transform MSi.

Exact prices are difficult to come by but as 'part of a support package' I've seen $123m quoted. MSi Electronic Advanced Ground Launcher systems for the US Army have a contract value of c.$24m for small nos of units to include maintenance, support, spares and training.

The US Army has rec'd 6 MSi (EAGLES) Defence Solutions to improve its counter drone capabilities to fight off drones in the Middle East and protect US assets in the region. This highlights the case for purchasing the new EAGLS's counter drone systems for US forces in the ME as a matter of urgency.

Also the US Navy recently released a document called Justification & Approval which stated that an urgent contract action is required to address the emerging and persistent threats posed to the United States Central Command area of responsibility from the Islamic Republic of Iran to attack US bases.

A very good week for MSi holders the shares adding 120p on the week to a record close of 1340 (in some places 1375p). Could be the defence expo in London has highlighted the attractions of MSi and the company is gaining a wider audience.

The shares are up 430 this year (47%) and have a lot further to travel despite the paucity of newsflow. We don't expect anything until the H/Y in early December the shares remain a strong hold in my view.

Thought I'd have a look at the buy sell ratios (highly unreliable) but for what it's worth, buys total 48,050 and sells 7570 on 74 bargains dealt at the time of going to press. Shares are headed back down on jobbers trying to shake out loose holders as profit takers can't believe they have lucked into short term gains and snatch profits.

Nevertheless come what may the shares will post a very decent gain on the day and on the week. Perhaps we can conclude it was simply a case of more buyers than sellers for a change, unless you know different?

10 times the recent daily average of shares traded by lunch, isn't usually put down to simply more interest! Something has spiked investors to buy MSi. Maybe the gobbledygook NC posts on advn holds the answer?

Have to say I'm surprised as the bod warned at the F/Y profits would be impacted heading to the H/Y but over the next 2 years they remain optimistic.

A lot more trades this morning as the shares clear past highs. Whether this rise is purely down to increased buy interest or something more substantial i don't know.

Wall St indexes closed at another record yesterday following gains in big tech and the wider mrkt. Tesla rose $17 to $371 & Micron Technology put on $11 to $151 and all-time high. The Dow added 617 to 46,108 while the 500 gained 55 to 6578. The Nsdq closed 143 better at a new high of 23,993. Small caps joined in the markets advance climbing 30 to 1461 up 4% ytd.

US consumer prices rose more than forecast in August and annual increases in inflation was the largest in 7 months as initial jobless claims rose to 263,000 a 4 year high. The Govt said that non farm payrolls could have been overstated by 911,000 jobs in the 12 months through March.

On the markets Warner Bros Discovery ($17:75) surged 29% on expectations Paramount Skydance is preparing an all cash bid for the struggling media company. While Oracle receded $21 to $316 on profit taking after the previous sessions 36% surge and Delta Airlines ($60) raised its Q3 revenue projections due to on going travel demand. Kroger one of the largest supermarket chains saw sales tick up 3•4% in Q2 topping those of the same quarter a year earlier. Shares unchanged at $67:75.

Ten of the 11 S&P sectors rose led by healthcare and materials and in the wider mrkt advances outpaced decliners by 7:1 on above average volume of 18•2 bn shares traded. The Dow top 30 saw 5 companies posting losses led by Boeing, Cisco & Coca Cola. Heading the risers 3MCo up 4% to $159, Travellers & Home Depot.

Morning all.

On Wall Street stocks moved higher early in the session but gave back most of the gains over the course of the day. The 500 and Nsdq pulled back well off their best levels but managed to end the day at record highs.

August's CPI report on Thursday will be the main economic event of the week where investors are 100% certain the Fed will cut by 25 basis points with another cut priced in before the end of the year.

On the DJI top 30 board 9/30 closed better led by Nvidia, Chevron & Cisco while Apple

Salesforce & Amazon led the losers. Big gainer was Oracle (touted as a buyer of TIKTOK) whose growth strategy for its cloud infrastructure lifted big tech after forecasting rocketing sales to $114bn.

Oracle shares jumped 36% to $330 overtaking Elon Musk as the world's richest individual if only briefly as the stock came off highs by tge close. Oracle earned itself a place in the record books as no company worth over $500bn has ever gained more than 25% in a single day.

Big faller was Synopsis ($391) plunging 36% after it's latest earnings miss. The slide followed its Q3 report which revealed revenues falling well short of forecasts. Today retail heavyweight Kroger and software giant Adobe report Q nos.
