I should have said it was all paper work and contract notes in those days, which often went missing thus delaying payments etc... Funnily enough I remember being sent a share certificate for 1500 Sainsbury's shares which didn't belong to me. Unfortunately 3 wks later they asked me to return the certificate grrr!!

i bet!! got in a bit after you around 430'ish and cont to add weekly to a winning position up to c.600. certainly one of my best investment decisions of recent years. have the occasional dabble with a friend who has a decent chunk of msi.

i dont go mad anymore chasing the latest blue sky miner. i decided to make msi my last play with 90% of my funds and so far so good. obviously a very high risk strategy should there be a downturn which many are predicting. it would be very difficult to sell out with everyone rushing for the exits. hence i have a stop loss in place should the (un)expected occur.

i was nearly wiped out in the 87 crash due to trading the account and couldn't close my positions until it was way too late. that cost me a goodly 5 fig sum! however there was a bonus due to some **** up in the brokers back office i was left with 1000 bp at around 60 which i had paid for (the screw ups in the paper work overwhelmed small brokers after the crash whose clients were all day traders in the account) and many deals went up in smoke!! that started me on the recovery path so thanks to bp i survived. i abandoned account trading thereafter and became strictly a buy and hold man.

In 2004 the shares traded at 56 having done nothing of note since listing on Aim. By 2012 the shares had improved to 295 then fell back to 118 in Dec 2020. Over the next 5 years the shares have moved higher year on year to the current high of 1294 a 997% increase fuelled in the main by the Defence division winning orders in the US.

Well done to anyone who climbed aboard back in Dec 2020.

In 1923 Standard Statistics developed its first stock mrkt indexes of 233 companies computed on a weekly basis. Three years later it became a 90 stock index computed daily and in 1957 was expanded to 500 companies and renamed the S&P 500 stock composite index. In 1986 the index began being updated every 15 seconds.

Wall Street's main indexes were mixed yesterday though the 500 inched up 2 to another closing high while the Dow & Nsdq were flat following a hotter than expected producer prices report dampened expectations of potential int rate cuts.

A Labour Dept report showed producer prices increased the most in 3 years in July due to a surge in cost of goods & services suggesting a pick up in inflation was imminent. Yet traders are still pricing in a 25bp rate cut in Sept as the nos of Americans filing new benefit applications fell last week.

US stocks are pricey the 500 trades on a p/e of 23x forward estimates and a near 40% premium to its 20 year average. On the big board 12/30 stocks ended higher led up by Amazon, McD & JPMC while 3M, Cisco & Home Depot propped up the laggards. Stocks in focus included Intel up 7% on talk the Govt could potentially take a stake in the chip maker to support its plans to build a manufacturing hub in Ohio. Intel ($22) has fallen behind the likes of Nvidia & AMD in the Ai race.

Cisco Systems ($69) fell 2% on disappointing Q4 nos which were solid but unspectacular. Upbeat guidance and strong product growth the stock at 18× forward earnings remains a buy for those seeking tech exposure. Big loser on the day was Coach parent Tapestry ($96) the handbag maker slumping 16% after forecasting profits will be below estimates due to rising tariffs. Vols were a light 16•3bn traded the S&P posting 15 new 52wk highs and 1 new low.

EOS Holdings our Australian partner's stock has risen from AUD $2•95 to AUD $6•01 in the last month. Analysts who follow the stock have a strong buy rating on the company. EOS traded at AUD $1•25 in Jan 2025.

From small caps to big tech stocks the market heads ever higher on bets the Fed will cut rates by a minimum 25 bp in Sept. For now it's not fear driving investors its fear of missing out on the rally that's concentrating minds. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he thought an aggressive 50bp cut was possible given recent weak employment news.

Unfortunately for Trump & Bessent, Fed Chair Powell treads a more cautious path.

And on that note Trump at his latest meeting with Washington's press corp suggested that 'Too Late' Powell could face a lawsuit over renovation & miss-management costs for the central banks 100 year old HQ amounting to c.$2•5bn with the possibility of fraud involved.

The S&P is up nearly 30% from April lows and according to Deutche Bank just a handful of tech giants are responsible for 90% of the index's Q2 earnings growth. Russell 2000 stocks climbed for the 4th straight month hitting new highs while volatility measures like the Vix & MOVE indexes plumb their lowest levels.

However bucking the bullish trend megacaps like Nvidia, Google & Msoft closed down as investors searched for new growth opportunities among overstretched stocks. Apple ($233) put on $3 as the company plots expansion into Ai powered robots, home security and smart display. On the Dow 6 stocks closed down led by Cisco, Msoft & Walmart, while UH, Merck & Nike headed the gainers. The 500 posted 40 new 52wk highs and 2 new lows on below average vols of 16•9bn traded.

Morning all.

The 500 and Nsdq powered to record closing highs yesterday as stocks showed a strong move to the upside.

The 500 closed above 6400 for the first time amid a broad rally with the small caps gaining 3% and the tech heavy NSDQ up 1•3%. Large cap stocks Apple & Msoft led the gains with UH up $9 to $262 topping the risers board. Leading the laggards IBM, J&J and Big Mack with a $3 fall to $302.

While London & NY are still asleep stocks in Asia are roaring ahead led by Tokyo which hit 43,450 and a 2427 5 day points rise. Only Australia among Far Eastern Exchanges is showing a decline as investors take profits. Near close the ASX200 is down 44 at 8836.

The latest data from the US Bureau of Labour Statistics showed 'core' inflation rose 3•1% in the past year in July and the CPI increased 2•7% y-o-y. Traders now price in a near certainty for a rate cut in Sept. Crucial producer price data and retail sales nos are due Thursday and Friday.

In corporate and Trump news Intel ($21) rose 5% after CEO Lip-Bu Tan met with Trump who a week ago called for his resignation, saying " the CEO of Intel is highly conflicted and must resign immediately, there is no other solution to this."

Trump also said that imports of Gold to the US would not face tariffs "Gold will not be tarrified" wrote Trump on social media. He confirmed custom duties poured in a record $28bn into Govt coffers in July. To date a total of $136bn has been collected up from $8bn a year ago.

Contract Opportunity? Designed to confuse as usual methinks Roger!

Japanese & Australian mrkts hit all-time highs this morning after news that the US & China agreed to extend their tariff-truce for another 90 days. The Nikkei is up over 1200 points and a point below 43,000, while the ASX200 climbs 25 to 8871. Also optimism over a Sept rate cut of 25bp is aiding market sentiment. Traders and investors await US consumer price inflation nos for July due today.

On Wall St stocks showed a lack of direction over the day bouncing back & forth across the unchanged line eventually closing in negative territory. On the Dow which fell 200 P&G, UH & 3M led the (11) risers while CAT, IBM & Salesforce propped up the laggards. Citigroup & US Global Research became the latest brokerages to raise their year end targets for the S&P.

Stocks in focus included Micron Tech ($124) which raised its Q4 revenue forecast as prices for its DRAM products improved and the broader memory market shows signs of recovery. TKO group jumped 10% after Paramount bought the rights to distribute UFC events for the next 7 years in a deal worth $7•7bn. Shares put on $17 to a ytd high of $180.

Big gainer on the 500 was Albemarle ($81) the world's largest producer of lithium for batteries whose stock rose after a key Chinese maker of lithium-ion suspended production. Lithium-ion a key component in E/Vehicle batteries has seen prices soar above $11,000 a metric ton this year, a far cry from peak levels of $80,000 when demand outstripped supply and Albemarle traded at over $300.

Many analysts think Wall St is heading for a reality check as many large cap stocks are trading at nosebleed valuations and by several methods stocks haven't been this highly valued since 2021. The S&P posted 15 new 52wk highs and 17 new lows. Vols were light at 15•5bn traded.

Morning all.

Increasing optimism the Fed will cut rates in Sept has boosted stocks in Asia at the start of wk 33 having closed lower on Friday. Japan is closed for Mountain Day holiday.

Elsewhere it's a mixed to better picture across Pacifica with gains in China, NZ, Malaysia and Taiwan while HK & Singapore are down. S. Korea the best S.E.Asian performer this year, up 34% trades flat this morning.

In Sydney the ASX200 is up 30 (8837) after touching an all time high at 8852. Reversing losses in the previous 2 sessions with gains in Iron ore miners, energy & financials partially offset by weakness in Goldies and techs the market has been a steady performer this year climbing 7%. Market participants expect the economy to grow 2•6% this year up from 1•3% last year.

In other news 'chip' giants Nvidia ($183) & AMD ($173) have agreed to pay 15% of chip sales to the US Govt and in return will receive export licences to sell semi conductors to China. Trade tensions between Beijing & Washington have been easing recently prompting

CEO Jason Huang to meet Trump last week.

Nvidia has been a major driver of the Ai boom this year and in July became the first company to have a mrkt cap exceeding $4tn retaining the top spot of bigest global company over Microsoft by c.$600m and Apple by $1•05 bn.

Morning all.

We know MSi turned down in H2 last year. The day of the AGM MSi shares traded at 1150 and by year end had fallen to 910, a 21% fall. They say the past is no predictor of future performance and in MSi's case let's hope so for surely the company is on much sounder ground now. The shares are up 41% this year (albeit from a low base) and have further to go all being well.

The lack of new contracts for our defence and security business is worrying despite the strong pipeline of existing orders. I'm sure the company have pitched for new business in the US and elsewhere as the order book needs to be topped up as orders are fulfilled. They say turnover is vanity profit is sanity but no turnover no sanity!

I believe we will have a better H2 than last and lead to another record year for MSi assuming we have not sold the petrol stations etc... Pity nothing was forthcoming on moving off Aim. Are the costs of doing so prohibitive? Sooner or later this state of affairs must be addressed. Is it that we are just too small to bother moving, the board creating a nice little cottage industry in Doncaster away from prying eyes?

Mixed cues overnight kept investors on the back foot as uncertainties continue over US reciprocal tariffs kicking in yesterday. Stocks moved mostly higher early in the session but gave back ground over the day eventually ending mixed.

Market uncertainty is created by pressure tactics exerted by Trump constantly altering tariffs on US imports. He announced a 100% tariff on imports of semi conductors and chips but said companies building in the US would be exempted. He also threatened pharmaceutical imports with up to 250% tariff.

Despite Trump's constant interference in markets the Nsdq added to Wednesdays strong gains climbing 73 to close at 23,390 up 11% on the year it's 17th record high of 2025. On the Dow 14/30 stocks gained ground led by Apple, Verizon & Coca Cola. Going down Visa, Cat & Salesforce.

Big news of the week has been Apple's commitment to invest $100bn in US companies and suppliers over the next 4 years adding to the $500bn already agreed back in February. Ungrateful investors have sent Apple stock ($222) down 10% this year.

Based on last weeks economic data and dismal jobs nos traders expect an interest rate cut in Sept as beneath the surface the economic story is less euphoric. The labour mrkt is weakening and the large services side of the economy is stagnating as inflation ticks up.

Since and before the y/end nos, buy vols have been out'pacing sells by about 2:1. In itself pretty meaningless as we know yet the shares price has risen substantially.

In my opinion it does go to 'sentiment' an important factor in investors mind sets when they buy xyz stock. Given the fickle nature of many pis one has to tune into as much info as you can including the latest 'buzz' about the stock. But as everyone says dyor!

The days of 'bottom drawering' ones shares a recommended strategy in the late 50's & early 60s are long gone! I know i bought my first 10 shares in National Provincial Bank (Dad loaned me the money) as i was well under age to be playing the stock mrkt) and probably before most of you were born! A couple of months later I was hooked when I sold out for a near £3.2.6p profit. Thats when it all went down hill!

I jest of course. I'm still above water! I've never understood what it takes to become a Warren Buffet? Superior intelligence? Right place right time? Stock picking? Perseverance, Capital? Maybe you have to have bits of all in your make up? One thing he has demonstrated throughout his life is you win long'term!

Trouble is most of us think we have the talent to become a WB mark 2, yet here in am still bashing my head while Warren is giving away his billions! It's a lesson too late for me to change. Make sure you dont follow in my footsteps.

Thanks Roger some interesting points but as ever it's mostly the 'future'

reinforcing the nature of MSi as a long'term for any new investors. If your not prepared to invest on a 3-5 year look best go elsewhere.

If you go back in 1-3 yr time frames you will see holders have done exceptionally well.

So far the company have played a very straight bat and I see more good news in the years ahead.

With a current p/e of between 13 to 15x on a business that's being rerated by investors, is now a good time to invest?0 The ant-drone warfare business is going to increase substantially in the years ahead as countries seek defence options to ensure they can defend their citizens a prime responsibility for most governments.

MSi is ideally placed to support and supplement drone systems through Vshorad, gun systems and with Electro Optic to countries in war torn areas of the world. A high degree of patience is required investing in defence due to the long lead times of the business, lumpy revenues, expensive equipment and in some cases reliance on MOD orders. Nevertheless there is 'certainty' you will get paid.

So far holders have not been diluted but as we grow we can expect the company to raise funds. They may be able to do this without tapping shareholders. In this respect the board have done an outstanding job and should be congratulated in keeping the outstanding below 20m.

I avoid like the plague companies (outside of blue chips) with hundreds of millions of shares in issue. Making the nos on a billion issue is no cake'walk. For instance if MSi had 1bn issued the sp would be circa 4p on a p/e of c.44.

Indeed Taverham!! While we remain on Aim were going to remain an afterthought for as you know many Investment funds cannot invest in micro cap Aim companies due to the risk/return being unacceptable.

We should be actively considering a move off Aim. Why hamstring the company in a sector we have outgrown?

"Speed of light" an Australian Co secures a groundbreaking $125m order for high power 100kW ant-drone weapon with another nation (MSi) to defend against swarms of Drones designed to shoot down over a dozen drones within one minute.

EOS said the order, placed by NATO will be fulfilled in Singapore where EOS has a laser innovation centre. EOS is already an established global leader in counter drone capability using kinetic weapons and missiles to bring down drones.

The system which is mobile and can work on a truck operates at the "speed of light" and can shoot down as many as 20 drones in a minute. Missile systems are expensive costing c.$0•5m to $2•0m per shot whereas the laser system has more all round capabilities and costs less than 10c per shot.
