Wall St scaled new highs for the 2nd day yesterday helped by tech stocks which outpaced the wider mrkt. Positive US-China trade news backdrop helped sentiment as Trump is about to meet Xi JinPing in S. Korea this week.

Stock market bulls still fret over valuations for instance Nvidia's 43% ytd gain, Ai bubbles forming, credit supply and the jobs mrkt. This week a potential double whammy faces investors as a pivotal Fed Res int rate decision collides with a flood of mega caps earnings nos. Investors are only too well aware of the 38% rise on the S&P from April lows could be undone from any megacap disappointing the mrkt.

In the bond mrkt t/bill yields on the 10/yr bond eased to 3•990% from 4•020% on Fri.

Gold fell from recent record highs as optimism flowing through financial mrkts see gold & silver bullies cash in gains. Gold traded at $4363 in mid Oct and has fallen to current $3944 near $420 down in 8 days.

Twenty one stocks on the big board rose yesterday led by Nvidia, Apple & IBM.

Going down Walmart, Nike & Home Depot propped up the risers. You all know what goes up must come down sooner or later. The question is when and a few have decided the time is now.

Nearing 100 trades before lunch and I dont remember seeing that volume for well over a year. Could well be something happening in the background re: our other assets finding a buyer?

Not MSI Which will be in early Dec but M&S nos next week.....gŕrrrrrr!!!

Next week (45) sees MSi announce 2025/6 (H/Y nos).

We were informed back at the f/y results stage that some nos are not recognised immediately which are likely to impact the h/y numbers. At 1500p a new record high the shares still trade on a p/e of c.16x and might post earnings of 90 pps.

Pharmhall usually updates us with his forecasts which will be more accurate than my 'finger in the air' guesstimates.

Asian mrkts track Wall St higher at the start of wk 43 pricing in 2 more rate cuts of 25bp at next weeks Fed Res meet scheduled for Oct 28/29 & December 9/10th.

In Tokyo the 225 is off to a bright start gaining over 1000 points by mid'day to a new intra-day high of 50,491points. Gains were across all sectors especially Autos, techs and Banks. Exporters Canon, Panasonic & Sony were on local investor and big Funds buy lists. Kawasaki Heavy surged over 7% and Hoya 5% led the industrials. On the currency mrkts the USD is trading in the higher Yen range of 152. The 225 is having a strong year up 26% ytd.

Elsewhere across Asia & the Pan Pacifica regions mrkts track Tokyo's advance. Hong Kong and Sganghai are up 300 & 41 respectively on local buying interest which started on Friday. The anticipated rebound in Indonesia didnt happen the JSX Comp off 260 at mid session, while KL & Singapore are little changed. S.Korea & Taiwan both export led economies are leading Asian mrkts this year. The KOSPI Comp is up 68% ytd and the TAIEX 22% to date, while HK is 2nd best up 32%.

In Sydney the ASX200 opened strongly gaining over 70 to 9083 before profit takers stepped in to limit rises. Mining, financials & techs were all in demand though major stock BHP ($2101) lost nearly 1% while Rio Tinto & Fortescue were slightly better. Big faller on the session was Nuix ($2•46) down 15% on news CEO Rubensztein is unexpectedly stepping down. The stock has fallen 64% this year.

Oils were slightly better Brent up 0•47% ($66•25) as China / US trade war thaws. Profit taking continuing in gold down $31 at $4063 (NY time) well below recent record high of $4398.

Morning all.

Wall St rallied Friday morning sending major stock mrkt indexes soaring to new record closes after a Govt report showed US inflation cooling faster than most had forecast. The Bureau of Labour Statistics released the delayed CPI data revealing prices rose just 3% over the last 12 months.

The markets cheered the news expecting a 25bp rate cut next week with another cut before the year end . Yet investors are frustrated at the time it takes to feed through to the $ in their pocket. The lagging effect of rate cuts on consumer debt, ones mortgage, credit card payments etc is a constant bug bear.

Of the Dow top 30 stocks 19 rose on the session led by IBM, GS & Nvidia. IBM soared $22 to $307 a new all-time high & raised its outlook for the year after 3Q nos exceeded forecasts. Going down Honeywell, 3MCo and Walt Disney led the declines. A host of Wall's biggest names report next week. Expect nos from Apple, Amazon, Google, Meta & Msoft.

Morning all.

Intra-day highs were seen on the 500, Nsdq and Russell 2000 small caps as the Dow gained in 4/5 last sessions. On the politico front Trump and Xi Jinping agreed to meet in an effort to settle tariff issues which was seen as a positive sign. Settling differences with China could spark the next leg up for global stocks.

Traders now look to the release of the delayed US CPI data today. CME Groups FedWatch Tool bet a 98% chance of a 25 basis rate cut at the Feds next Oct 28-29 meeting. This will put rates in the 4•0-4•25% range.

On the Street stocks moved higher after an early bout of profit taking was easily absorbed. The Dow initially fell to 45,600 but about turned and traded higher throughout the session hitting a high of 46,800 before traders trimmed gains late on. Notable riser was Honeywell up $14 to $221 on earnings beats.

The Nsdq gained 218 to hit a record intra-day high before paring gains later on. Investors cont to buy the Mag 7 the main driver of the S&P ytd gains. Of special note Intels 3Q nos beat expectations citing a recovery for its x86 processors for PCs. The US Govt holds a 10% stake in the company which intends capex this year to be c.$27bn up from $17bn last year. The stock gained $5 to $41•46, still short of it's record $69 high in 2020.

On the big board 16/30 rose led by 3MCo, Amazon & Cat while leading the losers Amgen, Coca Cola and Verizon. Warnings of a 'bubble' forming from the likes of Warren Buffet are being ignored for the moment.....until they aren't!

Rumours of Buffet becoming a "Gold Bull" dont make sense to me. He rarely buys non producing assets.

Morning all.

The big news yesterday was a new round of measures against the two bigest Russian oil companies Rosneft & Lukoil. Trump announced substantial sanctions on them and all subsidiaries as frustration grows in Washington over Putins reluctance to engage with Zelensky. It's hoped this will pressure Moscow to resume talks. The UK have also slapped sanctions on Russian oil "there is no place for them on global mrkts" said Chancellor Reeves.

Stocks in New York came off recent record highs to close well down on an earnings miss from GE ($298) prompted sellers to take profits. Apple ($259) slipped as their new MacBook Pro & iPad Pro hit UK stores today.

However analysts expect Q4 nos to show the company able to protect margins. It retains its no 3 spot on the world's bigest companies league table at $3•835tn behind Msoft and leader Nvidia.

The profits slide at Tesla came as no surprise to investors. The company saw record 3Q revenues of $28•1bn on 497,000 vehicles sold a 30% jump over Q2 sales as it's Shanghai Gigafactory serves as the company's global export hub. However net income fell 37% for the 3rd Q in a row as profits dropped. Shares fell $16 to $429.

All 4 major stock indexes closed down on Wednesday snapping a 3 day win streak as 9 of the top 30 fell led by Chevron, Nike & Walmart. Heading higher GS, Cat and Salesforce. IBM ($269) fell $20 in after hours trade despite topping forecasts and lifting guidance as profits grew across all divisions. The company reported robust 3Q revenues up 9% to $16•3bn exceeding forecasts and expects to report $14bn in free cash flow for the full year.

A new round of export curbs which include a wide array of goods ranging from Laptops to jet engines are being considered against China over their rare earths policy to the US. Trump is scheduled to meet with Xi Jinping in S.Korea shortly. Insiders say Beijing is holding all the cards as Trump needs a deal to save face among his friends on Wall St.

Morning all.

The Govt grid lock now enters its 4th week of stoppages though Fridays US CPI nos are expected to be cobbled together. The longest period of Govt funding lapses was 34 days in 2018. The White House is attempting to lay off thousands of people and threaten to withhold backpay.

In Tuesdays regular session the Dow closed up 218 after hitting a record intra-day high boosted by upbeat nos from GM, 3M & GE Aerospace. The broader S&P ended flat while the Nsdq fell 13.

Among leading companies GM ($67) gained 15% as the auto maker raised its full year forecast citing resilient demand. Coca Cola ($71) put on 4% after the beverage maker reported solid 3Q revenue growth and GE Aerospace ($307) surged to a record 3Q high of $306 lifting guidance.

In after hours trading Netflix stock slumped $80 to $1160 on earnings miss and a dispute with Brazilian tax authorities. Despite this Netflix recorded its best ever ad quarter and 3Q operating income of $3•2bn a 12% y-o-y increase. Netflix anticipates cont growth driven by membership increases and ad revenues.

Highlights this week will be reports from Tesla, Intel & Amazon.

Morning all.

The Dow surged nearly 500 points from the bell powered by gains among big tech awaiting corporate results and an upcoming crucial US inflation report which could pinpoint the mrkts next move. As of today stock mrkt data is still undisclosed due to the Govt shutdown entering day 20. To date 76% of the 58 companies reporting have topped expectations. Traders believe the Govt shutdown will end this week.

In a classic 'buy the dip' move investors shook off last weeks dip as Apple shares hit a record high ($263) as sales of its new iPhone 17 far exceeded expectations. Loop Capital upgraded its rating on the stock and it's price target to $315. If you bought $1000 of Apple stock 5 years ago you would now be looking at $2240.

Investor attention this week will be on earnings from Wall St heavyweights, Tesla, GM, Netflix & Ford Motor.

S&P 500 companies are expected to post a 9% rise in 3Q profits according to LSEGB IBES latest data that's up from 6% a few months ago.

On individual stocks Micron Tech ($206) rose 4% to a record high after a push from Barclays and Applovin ($582) dropped 4% after a short position was disclosed in the company. Boeing ($217) rose after the plane maker won approval from the US fed aviation to raise 737 MAX production to 42 planes a month. Archer Aviation ($12) jumped on news the company had signed a deal with Korean Air to introduce its vertical take off and landing aircraft in S.Korea and Weight Watchers ($30) climbed 9% after they partnered with Amazon for a weight loss drug delivery service.

The S&P posted 14 new 52 wk highs and 4 new lows while the NSDQ 100 recorded a new closing high of 25,141. Nearing the close the Dow was up over 500 points to 46,692 trailed by the 500 just 8 off a new all-time high.

Brent crude ($60•94) extended losses from last week dropping to multi year lows on concerns over an oil oversupply. Uncertainties over implications of India buying Russian oil poses another question for the mrkt. Trump has applied an extra 25% tariff as a punishment on India for buying Russian oil. India imports c.87m tonnes of Russian oil driven by discounts due to Western sanctions. Premier Modi said he will stop importing Russian oil after Trump 'had a word'

I will never and have never paid for investment advice. I read as much as I can, listen to everything then make up my own mind. I dont want to be coming round your house with my shotgun after investing on one of your latest recommendations that went tit's up! Imo it's best you rely on your own judgement then you have only yourself to blame or congratulate. I'm sure plenty will disagree but over the years I have always felt more comfortable travelling my own path

Asian mrkts were a sea of red nos on Friday as investors sold stocks taking the Nikkei down 758 points to 47,520. This was an expected reaction to last weeks trading on the Dow which fell 711 points despite Trump saying a deal in Ukraine could happen anytime soon.

Mrkts tend to ignore the 'anytime soon.' For instance the Nikkei has started to re:focus on local fundamentals for pricing stocks, ignoring Wall's anytime soon futures moves. Few UK investors check Eastern stock prices for the early nos. I do, as a matter of course having held shares HK Land, HSBC & Standard Chartered for many years at one time or another. Its my first port of call in the morning. I can say I made a mint on HKL purely as I was in the right place right time buying at $2 and out at $8+.

My pal & golfing buddy a very rich Chinese investor were thinking of buying a small 50 acre Rubber plantation outside of KL in 1964. Unfortunately the deal fell through when the seller got wind of Malaysian Airways buying up land adjacent to our 100 acres to expand the new air port. I'm hazy on the details now but it was a big blow at the time.

My pal went on to become a big noise in the Hang Seng Bank in HK.

At todays open London stock indexes suffered a wide ranging outage as investors were left in the dark in early dealings as Amazon web services disrupted global web sites. This left investors unable to trade for a very frustrating 3 hours. Imagine this happening in a stock mrkt crash! A friend of mine who has made many times my paltry gains is 100% out of the mrkt and has been for a month. I'm tempted to follow him.

As US mrkts are closed today investors are relying on Dow futures to plot the way forward. The Dow is forecast to open up 180 points tomorrow, well above the consensus on the ftse 100 which is 34 better this afternoon in sluggish trade.

Having little impact on mrkts to date, Warren Buffet latest views on stocks where he advises investors to sell everything now, has been questioned as to the validity of his widely publicised announcement on UTube.

Some say beware its fake news. I dont know. Must say it didn't sound like the WB i have listened to for many years. Was it some bloody robot programmed to fool unsuspecting investors?

Anyways I started reading the IC in the late 70's when the likes of Trafalgar House Cunard & Thorn Electrical (my bigest all-time % winner) were all the rage. Thorn later merged with EMI which later proved a very bad move. Years later as privatisation stocks saw many thousands of new investors taking up those 'freebie' shares we entered a new era of investment. That was when I switched off from all the 'Johnny come latelys' and key board Warren Buffet's touting share advice to one and all.

Asian mrkts are tracking the Dow's 238 points gain on Friday. Outside of KL & Singapore all Far Eastern mrkts are heading up as trade tensions ease and reports that Trump may impose 500% tariffs on China over rare earths & Russian oil proved illusory.

Hopes Putin & Zelensky will bury their differences is keeping Trump engaged for the moment though he has threatened worse if they do not settle the war. Whether that means supplying Tomahawks to Ukraine is not known.

At the mid session break Tokyo is sharply higher as buyers return in force pushing the benchmark Nikkei 225 up 1388 points to 48,891. Heavyweights & financials lead the gainers as the 225 nears all time highs of 49,015. Other regional mrkts track the 225. HK, Shanghai and Taiwan are all solidly ahead recouping Friday's falls.

In Australia Stocks in Sydney are off morning (8960) lows to trade up 38 (9033) in the afternoon led higher by energy, financials & techs. Oils & banks trend better while Golds and miners are sold off along with Newmont & Evolution down 6% each.

Big losers on the session includes Bapcor (2•63 AUD) slumping 18% to a 10 year low after the auto parts group downgraded it's profit outlook after a pre tax earnings hit of $12m due to 'unsatisfactory operational practices' in its trade division and Deep Yellow (1•88 AUD) tumbled 17% after longtime 'Uranium Bull' CEO John Boshoff suddenly left the company. Near the close the ASX200 was testing record highs of 9110.

Hi, Roger I saw the article in IC not that i'm any further forward in my knowledge of the company, but no press is bad press as far as i'm concerned. Still a 2 page article on a UK microcap doesn't happen very often especially in the IC.

The last circulation nos i saw for the IC were c.40,000 weekly copies as of 2021 which included c.18,500 digital versions. No doubt by the time the mag is passed around you can double or triple those viewing figs.

The Dow pulled off 45,480 lows of last week so might see a bounce on Monday as the geo political scene seems to be slowly resolving if Trump can arm twist Putin & Zelensky to agree on a lasting ceasefire.

In 6 weeks time MSi will report their '25/26s H/Y numbers. Last year released on 6th of Dec the shares ended the week down 50p at 1000 and on the year at 910 having opened at 850 on Jan 2nd.

It was a disappointing end to the year after achieving record profits, revenues and an order book value exceeding £160m in 2024. Lets hope this year will see a continuation of the upward trajectory of profits and revenues.

A tough week all round for UK stocks as the ftse fell 82 on Friday and 72 over the week. MSi stock slipped

40 closing at 1400 on total volume of c.22,900 with sells just outpacing buys on a ratio of c.1•4:1. There was no newsflow from the company to move the shares one way or the other.

Strong returns by shares of Amex, Apple & IBM boosted NY mrkts at the opening. Dow futures had initially forecast losses of over 100 points. However bottom fishers returned in force to cap initial falls and send shares up over 200 only to be swamped by sellers an hour later knocking gains to par in very volatile trading.

At mid morning stocks had calmed down to trade up 50 and oil prices had stabilised after hitting a 5 yr low on Thursday ($60) on fears of a global oil glut.

Gold prices were hit by concerted profit taking falling $84 to $4240 despite buying ahead of the festive Dhanteras season considered an auspicious day in Hindu tradition for buying precious metals. The All India Gem & Jewellery Council expects gold sales to increase 12-15% over the holiday season which also incudes Diwali the Hindu festival of lights.

Walls fear index had jumped over 22% by Thursday and another 6% this morning to 29 tracking falls in equities across the globe. Dealers fear there is more bad news to come. The Cboe volatility index closed the week down 4•53 points at 20•78. Investor nerves were somewhat calmed as concerns over dubious bank loans eased despite 2 companies Tricolor & First Brands filing for bankruptcy. Jefferies Financial Group ($52) rose 6% on Friday but is still under scrutiny having fallen 30% since Sept on worries over bad loans.

Short sellers of banks were scrambling to close positions as the Dow rose over 320 points. Bank stocks rallied but in Europe banks were sold off leaving Deutche Bank, Societe General and Barclays nursing losses of around 6% each. It seems the 'banks are OK' for now.

At mid'day investors were back in buying mode sending the Dow up 200+ from the days low of 45,862 to it's best close in 2 months. Twenty two of the Dow top 30 gained led by Amex, Visa and Cisco. Heading down Salesforce, GS & big loser Caterpillar off $14 to $527.

Trump will meet Xi Jinping during the upcoming APEC summit in S.Korea quashing fears of more tariffs on China. Once again his comments have lifted stocks off their lows having previously said he had no intention of going to S.Korea.
