US stocks fell to their lowest closing levels in 2 weeks under the weight of falling tech stocks. The bigest drag on mrkts were falls in Nvidia, Msoft, Amazon & AMD. Tesla contributed to a bad day for stocks falling $11 to $450 as shareholders approved a $1tn pay package should Musk achieve certain targets which include gettin the Co value to $8•5tn by 2035 and sell 10m vehicles annually down from an initial 20m.

A weak labour mrkt spooked investors prompting a wide sell off in stocks and a push into bonds. Investors expect the indexes to close in the red for the week though the 500 is off just 44 and the DJI down 651. Dow futures call the mrkt up 90 later today.

On the economy new data showed Oct job cuts hit their their highest level for the month in more than 20 years in what's shaping up to be the worst year for layoffs since '09. Given lack of info due to the Govt shutdown many investors are on the sidelines awaiting news from the Fed on int rates.

On the big board 10/30 showed gains led by IBM, Merck & Coca Cola. Heading down Amazon, Nvidia and big loser Salesforce off $13 to $239.

Among second liners Door Dash ($196) dropped 18% as it warned of more spend on product development. CarMax ($31) (not to be confused with Carl Marx) the used car giant is replacing its CE0 after weak sales & profit warnings. In a tough lending environment CarMax stock slumped 24% on the day due to a disappointing financial statement and outlook. In 1997 the stock changed hands for $10.

Datadog ($191) a software & cyber security Co jumped 23% on strong earnings beats and revenue growth nos. Several brokers have raised their price targets to a median $235. The company expects to generate c.$900m this Q and sales for the full year of $3•9bn. The stock equalled its all-time high.

Gold & Silver prices rose on the MCX taking positive cues from the decline of the USD making gold more affordable in overseas currencies. Gold resistance is seen at $4028-4050. Gold one of the best commodity performers is up 53% ytd.

Marks tie up with Zalandos to promote the brand in 20 European countries. Huge boost is expected in sales in the coming years.

Must admit I have been near pressing the buy button for 8 weeks and every time im about to take the plunge down they go again. Some say this is a wonderful buying opportunity. I'm not so sure. The stock has the classic signs of a dead dog limping away to die. The need for a top range CEO becomes more apparent by the hour and the shorters will take advantage while the board dither & dally. On balance I feel this has become almost irretrievable. The road back is too long for me, my funds can be better used elsewhere. Good luck to those of a more optimistic nature.

Lammy oversees the opening of all new prisons in the UK. As the Justice Secretary all prison matters land at his doorstep and to date it's been trampled on by escapees the latest being 2 more mistakenly let go with the best wishes from prison staff!

Not that he's much bothered as he can't even stump up a few quid to wear a poppy at PMQs, surely the one place a Minister should be properly attired to show support for veterans? The man is an embarrassment and should consider his position. Go off to Brazil to have a jolly tequila or two with your absent landlord Starmer?

Yesterday US stocks gained ground across the board reversing much of Tuesdays falls as techs rallied helping the market to counter losses from Nvidia ($197) & Msoft ($506) who have an outsize influence over the mrkts. Google, Broadcom & Meta all popped between 2•5% and 1•4% on the session.

Co earnings were the main focus for investors which saw McD ($306) rising 2% as their popular Snack Wraps were in high demand. Heading south Taser maker Axon ($640) slumped 9% after forecasting weaker profit nos while topping revenue forecasts and Live Nation Entertainment ($135) fell 11% failing to live up to expectations. The company is a leading specialist in concert organising, ticketing and event solutions.

Due to the ongoing Govt shutdown now in its 35th day the longest in living memory, data on the economy has all but ceased leaving the Fed in a quandary as a weaker jobs mrkt, inflation remaining stubbornly high, Trump tarrifs and int rates above the banks 2% target make forecasting a hit & miss affair.

On the big board 14/30 stocks gained led up by Amgen, Cat & 3MCo. On the losers board Home Depot fell $9 to $373 followed by Nvidia, Msoft & P&G.

Morning all.

Concerns about stock valuations intensified yesterday as stocks came under selling pressure despite a bright start to the day, the Dow climbing c.400 in the first hour. Also weighing on sentiment were comments from top banking executives who say the risk of a mrkt correction of c.20% is rising. The endless hype around technology might also be starting to wane as investors have been piling into bonds which attracted a record $51bn in October.

Shares of Palantir much in the news of late slumped ($22) to close at $185 in after hours trading despite reporting a 63% surge in revenues to $1•2bn. Yet they are up 154% ytd and were overdue some profit taking.

On the DJ top 30 board (11) stocks gained led up by Travellers, Merck and Home Depot. Heading down Cat, Nvidia & Boeing. Of note Rivian Automotive the EV maker closed at $12•87 after reporting better than expected 3Q nos delivering more vehicles than expected. Today Toyota, McD, Quaalcom, Arm and Robinhood lead companies reporting Q results.

As the Govt shutdown extends to 30 days Trump has reluctantly agreed to pay half rations to Americans entitled to benefits. The Govt will dip into funds set aside for contingencies to provide money to the low paid.

On Wall St stocks turned in a lack'lustre performance during trading yesterday. The Dow lost ground while the 500, Nsdq & Small Caps all advanced. On the big board 8/30 gained led by Amazon & Cisco. Nvidia the strongest force on the top 30 put on 2% to ($207) bringing its gains for the year to 54%. Leading the laggards Merck, Nike & 3MCo.

Stocks hitting the wire services main page included IREN the Australian Ai cloud services provider jumping 12% to $68 after Msoft announced a $9•7bn contract with Iren to utilise Nvidia graphic processing units. Iren is a tiny company with only 273m shares in issue.

Palantir a 'go go' stock beloved by US investors added another 3% pushing up its ytd gains by 165% to $207 as it topped 3Q forecasts issuing strong growth guidance for Q4. Profit takers clipped gains late on to $198 but the stock has soared 25 fold in the past 3 years and is up from c.$9 in 2020 with 2•3bn in issue.

Amazon the no 2 force on the big board pushing stocks higher rallied 4% to $255 a new record high, after announcing a $38bn deal with OpenAi to provide infrastructure for ChatGPT cloud computing services to run its Ai workloads for the next 7 years. The e-commerce giant has c.10•66bn shares in issue ranked no 4 in the global bigest companies league.

For the most part S&P 500 companies have met the mrkts high expectations for profits as 4/5 have topped estimates. To date 66% of the 500 in the index are on track to deliver a healthy growth of c.11% this year.

Morning all.

In a recent meeting between Trump & Xi Jinping in S.K both leaders agreed to extend the tariff truce. Overall US tariff rates on Chinese imports now stand at 47% from 57% hardly inducive for American consumers or global trade flows.

At the start of wk 48 markets trade ex Tokyo which is closed for Culture Day. Elsewhere in Asia SK and Indonesia are up 2% & 1% respectively. Others in the region trend better on the back of gains in HK & Shanghai who have both reversed early falls to trade near 52wk highs.

In Sydney stocks opened with early falls of 40 points to the days low of 8829, adding to losses in the previous 4 sessions. Miners and golds (Evolution & Genesis) were sold off, oils slightly better along with techs. Resolute was the big goldie faller off 5%.

Banks were better despite economic news pointing to a contraction in the manufacturing sector. At the close the ASX200 ended up 13 points at 8895 just 221 points off all-time high.

A very good week for MSI holders the shares adding c.160 on the week to close at a new high. The stock is up 78% this year. Go back 5 years Pre tax profits were £1•60m now £20•05m and revenues £62m now £118m.

Stocks closed wk 44 in the plus column for its longest monthly winning streak in years boosted by Amazon's 10% jump to an all-time high of $244. Elsewhere among the megacap companies Apple ($272) ended lower after CEO Cook flagged supply constraints in China and pricing pressures yet still reported 4Q earnings topping estimates as revenues are expected to grow by 12% in the Dec quarter.

The S&P 500 added 2•3% for its 6th consecutive monthly gains and it's longest win streak since 2021. The Nsdq gained 5% and the DJ put on 3%. So far of the 315

companies that have reported 3Q nos 83% have surpassed estimates. On the Dow gainers & fallers were evenly split, going up Chevron ($158), Verizon & Amgen. Heading down Msoft ($518), MCD & Visa.

In other company news Kroger (Supermarkets/food etc) fell $2 to $64 on news it was expanding with Uber Eats ($97) who are heading to Istanbul to build a $200m software center. Food supplier Conagra Brands fell to $17 after Nisa Investment Advisors dumped 23% of its holding. In other news Warner Bros Discovery ($22) jumped 9% after a Reuters report said Netflix was exploring a bid.

Netflix stock rose $30 to $1122 after unveiling plans for a 10 for 1 stock split. The company is one of only 10 in the top 500 with a share price above $1000. A stock split simply gives each holder more shares at a lower price, the company fundamentals dont change. At the last count Netflix had 425•2m in issue and the stock had been split in 2004 & 2015.

Back in Trump land two federal judges ruled Trump cannot suspend food aid for families during the shutdown as the money is needed to pay for benefits. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is available to Americans whose income is less than 130% of the federal poverty line of $1632 for one person and $2215 for 2 people. There are around 42m low income Americans entitled for help which cost the taxpayer between $8-$9bn monthly.

For those who dont follow the 'Naked Trader' (Robbies trading diary) MSi is his largest holding.

We're MSi to be valued at £300m the shares would trade at 1828 some 12% higher than current which is easily achievable by the H/Y.

Yesterday was mostly a day of negotiation on tariffs as Trump & Xi Jinping got down to business on trade matters. Firstly Trump has agreed to reduce fantanyl linked duties on China to 10% from 20%. In return China has agreed to resume purchases of US soy beans. China will also suspend the implementation of new export controls on rare earths and in return the US will suspend its 50% penetrative rule on export controls.

Both sides reported Trump and Xi Jinping were very friendly during the meeting. Trump later said he expects China would start buying American energy and that a very big transaction may take place concerning the purchase of oil & gas from Alaska.

On Wall St stocks got a reality check as the 4 major indexes all lost ground on the day led lower by the Nsdq tanking nearly 400 to below 26,000. The Dow which had started brightly put on 700 by mid'day but thereafter stocks fell throughout the rest of the day concerned about the Govt shutdown now in day 30. Eighteen of the top 30 gained led by Cisco, Salesforce & Disney.

Going down Verizon, Amazon & Boeing off $13 to $200.

Of the major blue chip companies Meta ($666) sank 11% it's bigest one day drop in 3 years. Msoft ($526) closed down 3% after reporting record capex of $35bn in Q1 earnings. The Co warned mrkts spending would rise this year. In contrast Google finished up 2•5% due to growth in its advertising & cloud computing businesses powering better than expected nos which saw its Class A shares gain 4% to $283 an all-time high.

Of the 222 S&P companies reporting 84% have beaten earnings estimates topping the 77% average of the past 4 Quarters. Investors are in a risk off mood following the mrkts run up to record highs as these tech earnings fell short of Wall's forecasts. Neither Meta or Msoft were able to clarify when investors would see a return on their Ai investments. Apple & Amazon will report Q nos after the mrkts close for the day. Both are expected to beat forecasts.

Morning all.

Buy vols are outpacing sellers by 99-1 heading to the afternoon close. This continues the buyers faith that the company will produce the goods. Sooner or later the jobbers will need to refill their satchels with unwanted stock, so you should expect a shake out imminently.

It's not going to be easy to pick up loose stock given most expect the shares to go higher in the months ahead and new holders will need a lot of persuading to sell.

Many Aim investors get fed up with not being able to buy in reasonable quantities. I say come to MSi, the jobbers will supply the shares you need but expect to pay a hefty premium.

Long'termers have had ample opportunity to cash out with decent profits and I have contacted a few who consider the shares undervalued and won't sell until........ they have to.

Easy to buy, hard to sell is every investors conundrum. And there is no easy answer

and I dont have one having been brought up on long'term investing. I have done stupid things, missed golden opportunities to make serious money and fell for Woodford's pump and dump of Sphere Medical a one-time wonder stock that never got a blood transfusion when it desperately needed one. That cost me serious money.

I will write a book on that over'looked scandal if I survive the next few years.

Is 'smart money' responsible for the big uptick in the sp and daily vols this month? Smart money or capital usually refers to banks or institutions who control the movements of funds as opposed to pis holdings. I'd guess the rise from 1320 to 1600+ has been driven by private investor buying for the most part except that 85,000 trade at 1600p on Wednesday.

Back in the day that would have required the mrkt to be notified of the trade details.

Nowadays no-one is much bothered. The level of transparency is near zero as much business is conducted on the Dark Web away from prying eyes.

In early dealings this morning the sp continues higher albeit on small volumes of (c.2212) shares traded. At 1600p the shares have gained 76% this year way above my expectations. However it should be noted that the rise only really started mid Sept and news of a contract win for the US Navy boosted the shares in early October.

Be interesting to see if the shares maintain this level ahead of the H/Y nos due in early December.

Stocks had been on track for solid gains on the session as the Dow cleared 48,000 after the Fed cut its int rate for the 2nd time this year in the range (3•75%-4•00%). But the mrkt snapped lower after Powell warned it "is not a foregone concusion" that we will cut rates in December.

Meanwhile stocks were having a mixed day though the Nsdq posted a new record close as Ai businesses report surging demand despite economic headwinds. The Nsdq topped 26,000 for the first time ever. This is keeping pressure on companies to deliver for their shareholders as many think stock prices have shot too high.

One stock that defies gravity is Nvidia ($207) becoming the first ever company to be valued at over $5•0tn, an unprecedented surge in the firms value reflecting the growing influence of Ai on mrkts & the economy. To put that into perspective it's almost the equivalent of the combined size of the stock markets of Germany & France, 25 Walt Disneys or 2•5x the value of the ftse 100.

On company news Teradyne ($174) soared 20% the bigest gain on the S&P 500. Also Caterpillar ($585) noted for its mining & construction business rallied 12% on stronger profits and revenues for the Q.

Fiserv stock tanked 44% as the payment & financial solutions firm shocked mrkts with a profit warning as it reported weaker 3Q nos slashing forecasts for the year. Around 103m changed hands as analysts were dumbfounded at the level and pace of the slowdown. The company also faces a Federal law suit regarding its Clover payments platform. A new CFO has been appointed and the company has applied for a Nsdq stock listing expected on Nov 11th. The stock closed at $73 compared to its 200DMA of $173.

Yikes!!!

Good start to the days business as MSi ticks up 45 on all these zero 'unknown' trade vols at a new record intra-day high of 1580- 1600. Since Monday there has been a considerable uptick in share vols which usually heralds the release of price sensitive news. Lets see.

Wall St continued its record breaking run (3rd consec) as the 3 major indexes powered to new closing highs despite pulling back in late afternoon trade. The Fed is expected to cut rates by 25bp today as Trump and Xi Jinping are optimistic about signing a US / China trade deal in S. Korea.

Nvidia led the mrkts higher providing a boost to stocks, closing at a new high of $201. CEO Huang announced a flurry of new partnerships and Trump said he would likely be discussing Nvidia's advanced Ai Blackwell chip with Xi Jinping. Amazon ($230) will be in the firing line after announcing it would cut 14,000 jobs while Apple ($269) shot past the $4tn valuation mark. The company will announce fiscal 4Q nos on Thursday and Msoft ($542) will report today. In 2019 Msoft invested c.$1bn in OpenAi and now values it's stake at $135bn in the new structure.

On the Dow gains and losses were evenly split. Heading the gainers Sherwin Williams put on $18 to $354 followed by Msoft & Nvidia. On the down slope Walmart, Nike & J&J. The next few days will be crucial for mrkt sentiment. Investors don't want an surprises from the 'Mag 7.'

Gold fell to a 3 week low extending declines as the US/China 'love-in' continued to put pressure on the safe haven asset. The sell off in gold has been relentless as investors take profits. A bounce this morning has been a welcome change from the "sell, sell, sell" of recent weeks.

US crude inventories are showing a net loss of 6•44m barrels for the year. The Strategic Petroleum Oil Reserve has risen to 409•1m barrels as the Govt attempt to replenish the nations stock pile of oil run down in the Biden years. Gas & distillate stocks also fell in the reporting period.
