US close.19 Nov 2025 06:50
It's been a bad day for most stocks the 100 fell 123 to just above the days low and the Dow was on course for a 500 points tanking. Some say it's a healthy correction for the market that has got ahead of itself on the back of Ai 'over exuberance'. Notably on the UK ftse 250 Ocado slumped 22% to 170 after US grocery client Kroger shut down 3 warehouses relying on their technology. Ocado is jointly owned 50:50 with M&S.
In the US Nvidia fell to $180 on profit taking and worries their 3Q nos won't come up to scratch when they report tomorrow. The shares have had a stellar year becoming the most valuable global company valued at c. $4•483tn and continue to be a private investors favourite 'go-to' stock. This month the stock is off nearly 9%. Other chipmakers Intel, Micron & Quaalcom also fell back in sympathy.
While Nvidia slips Amazon ($222) undertook its first bond sale in 3 years and Home Depot fell $22 to $338 saying they made less profit during the summer and cut its full year earnings outlook. Economic uncertainty and a cooling hosing mrkt are not helping large retailers who rely on discretionary spend to keep the tills ticking over. In the sector Target, Walmart, Lowe's and Gap are also set to report Q results this week.
Looming over mtkts is the release of the delayed US employment data which could delay any rate cut, for if a strong jobs report on Thursday would likely stay the Feds hand on rate cuts, any weak figures would raise worries about the economy. Damned if you do.......
On the big board stocks rallied in the afternoon as bottom fishers piled back into oversold stocks pulling the Dow off a double bottom low of 45,914. Heading the recovery Merck, Travellers and GS led the Dows 14 risers while Nvidia, Amazon, Msoft & IBM propped up the fallers. At the close the Dow resumed its spiral off nearly 500. Dow futures call the mrkt down another 60 at open today making it among the worst major performers this year with Sydney, KL & London's Aim market.
