Wall St stocks moved higher after the notable rebound seen during last Fridays session (Dow up 500). On a holiday shortened week the Nsdq showed a particularly strong upward move on the day surging 599 or 3% to 22,872 scoring its best move since May after nearly slipping into correction territory. The Nsdq is still well down on its all-time high of 29,205 reached in Oct'25. The 500 added 102 while the narrower based Dow 30 posted a gain of 202.
Investors are hoping the Fed will cut rates at their Dec meeting by at least 25 bp which would be the 3rd & final cut this year. The US holiday shopping season starts this week with Thursdays Thanksgiving Holiday followed by Black Friday & Cyber Monday retail rushes. The National Retail Federation expects holiday sales to top $1tn for the first time ever.
Of the big board top 30, gains and losses were evenly matched at 15 all. On the risers board Merck, Amazon & IBM, heading down Disney, P&G and Verizon. Buyers piled into semiconductor companies Broadcom, AMD & Micron Tech. Among the big winners Tesla ($421) & Google 'A' ($327) both gained 6% & 10% respectively, Google hitting an all-time closing high. Alibaba, Kohls & Dell Technologies were others expected to post Q nos tomorrow and Wednesday. Economic stats due inc, Retail Sales, PPI survey & consumer confidence data.
