Hi Steel trader, from my research it looks to me that Cement, Glass and steel production are being incentivised to move away to other parts of the world Africa etal. There is also this commitment/agenda in the recent US/CHINA agreement on green house gases ; http://chinafocus.us/2014/11/24/us-chinas-historic-joint-commitment-climate-change/ So as I see it the priority is to reduce pollution in China and that Trumps everything else. This is the prism which China's government are looking thru which maybe why it does not make sense using conventional wisdom of cost metrics alone . If you add the potential of reputational damage/health costs/ social breakdown/ environmental Armageddon to the cost of your cheap steel/cement/glass then it probably makes financial sense as well to move it out of country. I hope for the people of the host countries that they insist on a high standards of environmental control/monitoring and I believe it's up to companies like BAOBAB to play a part in making that happen also. So to answer your question , yes I think they'll go to steel production. IMO (Bwtfdiknow)

China has to stop chocking it's citizens and polluting it's rivers. It simply cannot go on producing in the same way so it has to change. It's Going Global policy removes a big chunk of production from the mainland to the lowest cost region from where it can import from Bottom line is China has to stop poisoning itself so displacing production is the priority other wise it will have huge social and health problems as well as legal claims against polluters which are gaining currency. So joining BAO the lowest cost producer world wide makes sense to me anyway. bwtfdIknow
