Azithromycin is widely used in hospitalised COVID patients. This result and the importance of minimising unnecessary antibiotic use to avoid resistance means this practice should stop unless a clear (antibacterial) clinical indication.

So this standard of care should now stop.

Latest results from RECOVERY trial: Azithromycin does not benefit patients hospitalised with COVID-19. No improvement in 28-day mortality, duration of hospital stay, or progression to invasive mechanical ventilation/ death.

Org30 you are right current thinking (WHO, FDA) all recommend against interferon at later disease during inflammation stage. Most scientists all believe it contributes to cytokine storm etc.

However there is data when it comes to IFN-B showing the opposite to be true which gos against all conventional thinking.

4 ICU patients recovered after inhaled interferon Beta. From Dr Aurélien Mary. Small numbers but 4 surviving severe stage gos against conventional wisdom of using IFN-B. You would expect a different outcome.

Synairgen themselves have said a few times they were surprised IFN-B was effective at later stage.

Very interesting situation there is very recent evidence showing potential benefit of IFN-B in late stage which gos against all conventional thinking. As Richard says there is scope here for further trials.

Hence why RM / French Dr and many scientists have been surprised that interferon (Beta) hasd been beneficial even at later stages.

Take a look at the top left of the chart under cytokines. 'Notice the frequency of anti-interferon antibodies in severe COVID patients' This could account for interferon Beta having a beneficial effect even at this late stage of disease. You will also note there were no autoantibodies of IFN-B.

Government has just released Liverpool data here mentioned in BMJ based on 3199 tests with 46 SARS-CoV-2 cases. The document also mentions pausing use of test in care homes.

Sensitivity 48.89% (33.7% to 64.23%)
Specificity 99.93% (99.76% to 99.99%)

Annoys the hell out of me these tests are given to NHS workers.

The trial design and endpoints have changed so P2 and P3 are effectively different trials. The P2 hospital pivotal arm is now redundant and to be honest the home arm may well become redudant to if rumours of US based home trial is true.

Richard and Tom have said aim is to dose 1st patient in December in the P3 and have confirmed several times they will RNS trial start.
