Looks like Colchicine has got good potential, however the only data we have seen is headline data. Most scientists are saying they need to see the actual trial data/peer review and also believe the primary endpoint of the trial was missed.

So need to wait for the actual data on this trial but does look promising!

There is no guarantee it will become the prevelent variant whatamess but we should all be aware of what will likely happen if it does.

Yes if the worst case scenario does happen with this variant the NHS will be even more overwhelmed than it is now so lockdown will need to be even stricter. Most foreign countries will likely ban UK travellers for fear of spread.

Hence why that twitter Dr I recommend people to follow to give early warnings ahead of main stream news.

77 cases of the South Africa variant have been detected and we are assured by government they are actively tracking down any people who were in contact with these 77 people to stop it spreading further. Serco test n trace doesn't instil much confidence however so will see how this turns out :0

Yes the E484 variants are very bad but there is no guarantee they become prevelent in UK or Europe. The UK strain B117 currently is still the dominant one and may stay that way.

The UK for its faults probably has the best virus surveillence in the world and is the best at tracking new variants so we should see early signs if E484 variants become more established.

News to keep eye on
* Sir John Bell and vaccine manufacturers announcing how well vaccine induced immunity works with SA and Brazil strains in the coming days/weeks.
* Keep eye out on the spread of E484K variants and if we start to see big rises I would expect more lockdowns and whole world to ban UK travel.

Its any variant with the E484k mutation thats the problem. Studies in the lab show its resistant to near 50% of antibodies and 90% antibodies have reduced neutralisation gained from natural infection of the virus. Still unclear with vaccine created immunity how well E484k variants are dealt with. Thats why the scientists and governments are worried and there is now talk from Sir John Bell saying we may need to alter the vaccines.

South Africa and Brazil variants both have this E484k mutation and recently in Liverpool a couple of cases of another variant with the E484k mutation has been detected. Good news is only low level detection of these variants so far however bad news is its creeping up in number.

As selection pressure increases due to the vaccine coverage and with low partial immunity created by delayed 2nd dose of the vaccines it gives perfect conditions for these mutations to occur. So coming months there is chance E484K mutated strain becomes prevelent. As we have seen in Manuas and in the lab prior infection of Covid and natural immunity counts for nothing as you can easily be reinfected.

There is real potential for European border lockdowns for many months to come.

I reccomend following Dr Emma Hodcroft and her website/twitter for good information on variants round the world. Data is based on virus surveillance so is probably one of the best sources of early data.

You do know JAliss after 4th Nov placing SP went between 175-197 for 3 days before vaccine news. You claim some of these shares were bought to be flipped for small 1-2% gains well they were probably already flipped within the 1st day they were admitted.

* The AP-003 (interferon Alpha 2b) and its trial has been stuck in limbo since they picked Australia as the location to recruit their patients. Most people will know Australia has a zero covid approach so recruitment has been zero. This week Betterlife have announced they are moving to Indonesia to kick start their trial where there is a large number of patients to recruit. This trial has yet to start. Compare to SNGs P3 trial across 20 countries including UK / EU and USA thats already started and has fast track status.

Interferon
We know from multiple studies (seperate from SNG) that Beta is better than Alpha when it comes to Covid-19. Cast your mind back to papers like Bastard and Casanova and recently Southampton Unis research.

Manufacturing/Scaleup
We know from SNG how important this is to get a drug to market and get an EUA etc, I have not seen the evidence yet Betterlife can do this.

Cash
Synairgen raised 14 + 87 million to get to P3 trial and manufacture scale up. Betterlife raised approx £3 million. They will need further money IMO to progress.

IND application
SNG is complete with FDA assistance in design of trial. Betterlife are expected to file IND application in March and have a meeting scheduled.

I think they are too far behind now to be a serious threat to beating SNG in getting drug to market quicker. Yes their PR is excellent but notably they always refers to SNG which shows they see us as the leader. I do expect they will get a drug out there that will help vs Covid but probably not til towards the end of the year in big numbers.
