when you invest there is a golden rule about past performance, the rule could be extended to include this discussion. If it were as simple and straightforward as Jinny is trying to suggest/imply then the share price would have risen above £4 by now with the GUARANTEED profit being offered, but of course there is no such g'tee IMHO

Ratnapp, completely with you on this, and also don't understand why when someone gives an opinion it can meet with very rude response. Some on these boards don't believe in taking a step back to digest a different perspective. Good luck with your investments.

More talk of selling at £5, MTRO is either healthy and is not a case for TO below book value, or it needs financial support in which case something above todays sp is a starter. As Mr T has said the established banks are awash with funds but IMO that does not mean one will want to pay more than they need to. They have their shareholders to 'answer to'. When you think you know the solution you probably don't IMO and that certainly is true of me.

Porridge, when I looked HSBC, Lloyds, RBS were all down by a greater %; but you are right I would not know an edible mushroom if I went for a walk in the woods.

Well said bigsmoke, the markets are jittery, but there are already signs that MTRO will rise above the bigger banks.

This is my opinion and ought not to contradict with the aims of any LTI with MTRO holdings. My hope is to reach around 250 by the time of FYR, that would make me happy. Improvements on that will be well received but could take a while longer. And finally I do not wish to be rude to anyone on here, all the best JJ.

For me at least a number of people are regularly getting their hopes up that they will get £5+ for their shares some time this year, which for me at least is very unlikely. I'm not saying anyone is wrong, but 'would like us all to see the many different views and take time to digest them. GLA

We can add up the figures and be convinced it is worth £X but it is not if no one is offering £X when we want to sell. You may believe MTRO shares are worth e.g. £5 but try selling at that price. MTRO as a business is only worth what someone will pay which can be less than what you see as the sum of its parts.

Now before you get your hackles up, let me elaborate.
Now the govt might actually give it their blessing. Why because RBS has still got the govt telling it to do things. Now what's in it for RBS, well maybe MTRO has mastered IT and could put RBS on the right road. Be creative an RBS/MTRO tie up for a given 5 years might work for both. Kept it brief to allow expansion of my idea.

Lets say Lloyds or Barclays bought MTRO - they could keep it as a wholly owned subsidiary and give it capital to grow. There are plenty of examples of this and at a future date they might sell off MTRO to go it alone, having made a tidy profit, just a thought.

If RBS look likely to pay 14.9p as a div in April that will see the sp rise to at least 280 before xd IMO. However we really need to get rid of the govt holding to allow the share to rise which is a bit of a catch 22.

There is reference to 250 and 500 as goals for different or even the same investor(s) - IMHO opinion these are compatible, one being short term, by the end of Feb '20 and the other by some time in 2021. The latter might hinge on some sort of TO but could happen as Banks are viewed in a more favourable way. If the Directors of MTRO suggest that MTRO might be in a position to pay a div in …. then £4/5 could come sooner. See Theo's article. GLA

AllAtSea, took a similar view but was slower to act, both do look good to me and still hold small investment in PRU. 'Shall be interested in how MNG performs in comparison with AV./ L&G in the first qtr of 2020.
