Mr Big there seems to be a new strength to MTRO sp, its going to be interesting to see what happens in the course of the next 6 weeks before full year results are announced. We could see a steady rise in anticipation of some good news IMHO

Ned One aspect you raised was the sp rising when the div is declared and not yet paid. IMO you would expect the sp to rise before going xd so you could sell shares for the gain and avoid the income and utilise your CGT allowance. I hold my EUA within my ISA to avoid thinking about income tax and CGT.

Stop and digest, sometimes there is another way of looking at an issue. Believing in something does not make it right or in this case profitable. Holding an investment in MTRO shares does not mean I will ignore the risks. GLA

Jinny I see a contradiction in your post. The walk-in customers are long term, why? Probably curious and likely to stay with their current bank. Some of the walk-ins will be flip flops and chase the best deal/bribe for their account. Your analogy of a clothes store does apply to MTRO, it opens a new branch and needs to gain new customers to serve the cost of an extra branch. IMHO

Ned, a good line of thinking and I have no idea, however would they even want to pay out such a dividend? I suspect it would be better to pay 2p and reinvest the rest so the share price rises. Your tax concerns could mirror those of the Directors. I hope those with more knowledge of these things will offer guidance.

A problem that arises from having a high street shop, whether a bank or retailer is that you can find yourself with no customers to serve but with high costs to meet. Of course you would know about that. I have a sense that the high street will rise from the dead with the return of bakers, greengrocers, and quality butchers etc. For me I like to bank online but not so keen on online shopping.

GazRwood "clearly invested more than you can afford" this is always an issue to my mind. Behind it is can you afford to lose it? If you invest say 1% of your available capital then the answer is Yes but to realise a decent gain may cause you to risk 5/10% of your capital, to lose that is going to hurt but does not have to be the end of your world. I'm retired so tend to believe I should take profits as I do not have surplus income to play the markets with.

Know when to take a profit, the mistake I have made is not doing so. If you think that in the next week its going to jump to 10p then of course hold but it, EUA, has been floating around since it rose to 4p and taking a few 10% gains out adds up to a nice profit. GLA

10% of £1m is £100,000 which is very nice, so why not?!
