Steph, in the 80s / 90s when investment Trusts were very popular they would often trade at a significant discount to their NAV. In that situation the exact value of the holdings was known (cos the shares in them were being traded) but still the discount to NAV endured.
The size of the discount appeared to be a measure of the confidence investors had in the fund managers. Good managers lower discount, poor managers larger discount.
Similar here but the value of holdings isn’t known so build in some risk discount. Are we confident in BoD? Those who aren’t will want another level of risk reduction built in with a greater NAV discount.
If you get frustrated that the market isn’t being logical you’ll get a headache! It’s fear and greed that drive the prices, not logic.
