while I am on my second 50p gain...so you are well ahead on this risky trading game.

So it appears contrary for MNG to take a largish stake in an oil and gas company. Unless it’s name as Diversified Gas and Oil means it is not really an oil and gas co anymore.

As long as you understand what you are buying and why go ahead but make sure you understand how the ETF or whatever else you are buying behaves.....these types of things can be extremely volatile and illiquid if you want to get out.

I buy and hold a few shares, the rest is in funds which means less volatility and less stress.

Well asset price inflation is different again.
The FED has adopted a view that stock market crashes will impact the real economy quite quickly and should be avoided. Hence injections of liquidity when markets are stressed.....unsurprisingly this leaks into asset prices....
The headline numbers at the moment are not a good indicator f the whole.....many sectors of US stocks have been in bear territory and still are, but big tech just keeps on accelerating and taking the indices with them....look how valuable Tesla is. Current business does not justify the rating so you have to believe it will be dominant across a range of electric products it has yet to launch....and the Germans won’t eat their lunch in the vehicle space....I am not a Tesla holder (a fool in many people’s eyes)

It largely depends on how asset prices go....if they perform better than inflation then fee income rises faster than costs.....
contracts for outsourced services which may be linked to inflation...if you pay later the real cost is lower.
There are many variables some will be company specific, some will be ready others will be surprised and caught out.

Davey, this strategy will certainly retain profits and makes HCM wholly responsible for its destiny.
It is probably more risky and it may take longer to ramp up sales this way rather than pushing the product through established routes to market.....but I admit I don’t know enough about how drugs are distributed around the world and strategically with several products coming on stream building a sales function has its appeal.
I imagine they will end up with a mixed approach.....own distribution / partnered sales perhaps with reciprocal distribution arrangements and managed access programs in lower volume territories.

It is clear that some mistakes have been made by AZ and OU. The regulators need to be given space to work out what this means.....the results appear to meet minimum success rates, but further data may be needed. As it may be needed for other vaccines.

AZ was not a top vaccine producer before the pandemic....the issues likely stem from that inexperience.

They are good at oncology and other major treatments......currently oversold on those fundamentals.

I too do not like share buy backs.....as you say the theory is that the money goes to shareholders. The reality is that is goes to exiting shareholders - why would you pay good money to these over more loyal shareholders is something I don’t understand.
There is a trend for the SP to rise when a major buy back plan is going on....perhaps not surprising when there is a buyer who is contractually bound to buy the shares for a commission. This suits management as the SP looks stronger, but once the BB programme ends the SP falls so there is little longer term gain for the remaining SH. I reckon there is reasonably safe money to be made by buying into the programme and then selling before the BB a programme ends.

The true shareholders would rather have dividend or the company invest in itself.....to generate better returns. BUybacks are an admission the BOD can’t do better.
