@Ellltelinv. The vast majority of the LSE is up today. Wood Group has not bounced back - it's just a reflection of the overall market today. That said, any WG bounce is good, as it will help cushion the impact when the share price drops next week i.e. when Wood Group is dumped from the FTSE250 to the small caps.

Aimless - I don't deal in crypto, never have, never will. Crypto is a house of cards.

Make no mistake about it - Direct Line's CEO and BOD will be under enormous pressure from institutional investors to enage with Aviva's next offer probably circa £2.85 to £3.00 (maybe £3.25 as a push). I expect a second bid from Aviva early-mid next week. All to play for here.

My estimate for the second offer is £2.85 to £3.00. This would have to be seriously looked at...and may well be accepted.

Aviva knows that the synergies are there as well as the many duplications across the board between Aviva and Direct Line, so the cost savings will be considerable. The next offer will be higher...

Isn't it funny, how Aviva's first offer was equivilent to £2.50, and yet the Direct Line share price is still currently £2.21 (at the time of this post)...the second offer will be higher than the first...crazy! No doubt the Direct Line share price will pick up later today, Friday and Monday and investors who are sitting on their hands decide to invest and make some money. Lol

@Quickwin You can sell if you like - it means someone else can buy your shares. You will recieve 'some' returns, however, be aware that as this plays out over the next few days or weeks, you may look back and see you only pocketed chump change...

I've been in this position many times before. It's only an initial offer - and it's cheeky, despite Aviva's 'postering' RNS statement. Aviva want Direct Line, as it's a natural bolt-on business for them with considerable synergies and cost-savings to be made. A second sensible offer would put considerable pressure on the BOD, not least from Direct Line's institutional investors. The current Direct Line share (£2.19 as of the time of this post) is still way under Aviva's initial offer, which valued Direct Line share price at £2.50. For me it's an absolute no-brainer, I will hold, and wait for further offer/s and developments to play out.

Direct Line share price is circa £2.16p (up 35% so far today) at the time of this post.

The Aviva offer is still too low as it does not represent the long-term average of Direct Line's value. Aviva would know that, but started with a somewhat cheeky bid. I am confident that Aviva will make another offer (maybe two)...and may even try for a hostile takeover, which will be successful if Direct Line's institutional shareholders want it and decide to vote for it.

Either way, as it stands the current Direct Line share price has plenty of upward movement to come, as the current share price is still substantially lower than the offer which equated to a Direct Line share price of £2.50 with a second (better) offer on the cards.

All current Direct Line shareholders are in the box seat. I will hold and wait for that very likley second offer. Lots to play for here...enjoy the ride folks!

@mjones123 I agree. It hit my target price of £1.52 just before 10am, so am out for now. But Halford's is on my watch list and it's a solid but not spectacular company. Let's see how the Christmas peak sales work out. I may be back to invest - for longer than a week next time!

@fogthemogg. It all depends on your buy price, every time. The FTSE100 may be up by 205% in 20 years, but surely the smart, savy and proactive investor doesn't invest in FTSE100 trackers...? Such trackers are for the ill-informed and/or passive investor. IMO

You forget three important factors: Prudential's fundamentals (what's not to like?); the potential upside (in terms of share price); and the inevitable rise of the Asian economies (these aren't called 'Tiger economies' for nothing). Take another look at the Prudential share price in mid-late February 2025...

I'm very happy to add in the dips, and play the 'waiting' game here.

@Aimless Well either way, WG share price has been trending downwards for the last 15 minutes...what's a few minutes here and there... The shorts have already started to pop their champagne corks. Meanwhile WG hasn't even been demoted from the FTSE250 yet!
