I think it’s the same high tax on tobacco as well as fuel oil,can’t escape it!
I’d agree on the Macron strategy Mick, it’s a cracking way to control the revolting masses by convincing them of imminent virus death if they venture out in those yellow vests mate!!

I’m not sure mate,if it goes away as quickly as it appeared I’d like to think the economy and all its constituents will bounce hard and in a few months time people will be back to arguing about brexit or whatever but it’s such a great unknown and the death rates going on are quite sobering.
The market pricing in a future stabilisation or just reacting to an over-reaction last week,now that’s a question!
If only we’d known I’d have sold everything and bought all my William hill at 35p and now I’d be sitting pretty as opposed to still down uncomfortable overall percentages!
I suspect there’ll be some bumps in the road but our whole system is dependent on there being an economy to pay for everything otherwise we might as well chuck in the towel and become another communist state controlled China?

I’m certainly relieved I haven’t got a business now mate,a lot of friends of mine arn't happy about the uncertainty in that respect. My ‘work’ these days is full on but more odd-jobbing,helping out people with gardens etc and most recently shopping and delivering for all and sundry but happy to keep busy and help out.....and bored senseless when the markets are shut lol!!

I think AA is a classic recovery share mate,loaded with debt but priced to fail against a hunch on my part it’s a survivor and I’ve added a few on that hunch. Results looked okay under the circs and I’ve been with them for decades and they always push other products,up-selling I think is the term and it’s one of those bills I never really look at,just pay it by direct debit once a year as a bit of ‘just in case’ insurance so I’d like to think they’ll be around a long time as long as this financial crisis doesn’t pull them under on bond holders pulling debt or whatever.
Going to sit tight here for a bit mate and catch up on all the garden/maintenance jobs I’ve put off for years and Rosie will have to make do with walks and patrolling a somewhat smaller plot!!
Most of the food I’m growing up there is tree fruit so should be okay and I limited the veg to root crops this year so under the rabbits break through the netting hopefully they’ll be okay...mind you they are prolific burrowers so that might not be the case!!

Nice to see some relief along the bottom this week but for me the shine came off it with the great insurers divvy stitch up (Aviva especially)!

I’ve found it easier to take a view on holdings where they really do need to conserve cash but this just like the banks that arn't part owned by the Government I find rather insulting to shareholders.

I always thought from the moment they actually went ex the divi was like ‘exchange’ to use a housing analogy and the only time I ever remember that happening was when Bp had the spill which I think we’d all agree was exception circumstances!

Totally agree, goods more valuable than cash these days,did a gardening job the other day and charged the client a couple of bags of compost they had lying around for the greenhouse,mind you having just been told you’re only allowed three packs of fags at the co op I reckon it’s going to be cigarettes for payment terms only lol!!
Very mindful of being careful with the chainsaw etc because you really don’t want an accident at the best of times but now,gulp!
Also going to write to the banks that have already gone ex and demand they pay what they owe,I know it’ll go nowhere but it’ll make me feel better!!!

Keeps us busy for sure mate. Current clampdown on movement certainly restricting my outdoor activities as we rapidly head towards state control in all aspects of our lives! Birds having a great time!!

I’m afraid we already know the answer to that one mate,work all your life,pay your direct and indirect taxes,save like good citizens we are,mix and match the retirement provisions to include dividends,obey the laws of the land,buy our houses three times over with mortgages......welcome to the new world of state control.
I think there’s a lot of people who’ll end up feeding the capital destruction beast by selling investments at a loss just to live and literally feed themselves and this move by the government and their new lapdog banks is where we are. A right kick in the proverbials! Good luck.

This’ll be remembered for years to come,total stitch up and no one will ever trust them on divs even when this awful disease nightmare is played out,stupid move particularly when already ex. As an income share they’ve lost all credibility and trust going forwards, uninvestable and like most I’d imagine wishing to rid themselves of these shares,the only reason for retention is the even more unpalatable option of taking a massive loss!

Total stitch up mate,really annoyed at barcs in particular as they’re already ex div and last time the world fell apart they stuck two fingers up and the government and did that deal with the Arabs, Standard Chartered told the yanks to do one,lloyds rolled over and wrecked themselves with the hbos stitch up and rbs are still part owned so had to kowtow to the politically correct tune! Re-opening banks on high streets would help the customers and this will have a long legacy as no one will trust them to pay divvies in the future imo!

Sorry I disagree, in the case of rbs they have leverage because the government still owns a chunk,barcs are owned by the shareholders.

Morning all. Up early to have a good rant about the div crisis and our gutless banks kowtowing to whatever idiot at the Bank of England who’s persuaded them to stitch up their own shareholders! Div cuts to ensure survival of business rather than rights issues fair enough but when they’ve got so much cash already after closing branches blah blah blah.
Aside from that good old imperial brands paid their divvy yesterday which has pleased me somewhat!

For your comments on the retracted dividend/shareholder stitch up.
Fact is if they’d come out and said “listen guys,things not going too well,need to save some dosh and hang on with us for a bit...” as opposed to “we’ve got shed loads of cash and now we’re going to keep yours too” I wouldn’t be so irritated by this!
Barcs during the financial crisis had the guts to go to the Arabs and ‘sort it’ themselves and do a deal which earned my respect whilst cautious lloyds gets destroyed by taking on the toxic hbos.....oh no I’m having another rant!!
