As far as I’m concerned anyone holding the shares prior to the ex dividend date did so with the entitlement to receive the declared dividend and at some point in the future,shareholders will be making claims to receive what’s rightfully theirs.
Irrespective of the reasons or justifications given, the fact remains that the shareholders have been ‘robbed’ and whether you’re an investor or trader, this will leave a long lasting legacy for what has been a panicky knee jerk reaction by the banks who seem to want to curry favour with the public and lose their poor image from the financial crisis at the expense of their own share holders.
Rant over!
P.s. If they ever go above what I paid for them, I will no longer be a shareholder! GLA

Scary times indeed mate. Those birds in the trees and hedgerows might get a boost from the reduced human activities,certainly noticed how quiet things are without planes and traffic noise...might shut that irritating Swedish teenager up too lol!! Similarly getting logs and gardening,even put the greenhouse together which a mate gave us ages ago and if the lockdown continues I’ll be getting the paint brush out at this rate!
Good news on that frogspawn Troj and a relief the animals don’t seem to be effected by our stuff. At home just the normal ones except the pigeons that changed their mind and left a nest half built and cleared off as a result of much interest from a certain jack Russell!
At the land trying to encourage the smaller ones and since there’s so little cutting back there’s a lot more cover.
The speed of the sell off has been quite shocking and there’s new rules in town like suspending divs after being declared and the standard ‘no future guidance’ in all the updates,so I’m trying to hold and add companies that are more likely to survive rather than my normal m/o which is looking at divs,cover,history etc which has very quickly become somewhat irrelevant!

Morning all. Not much to report on the week except added a few bits and pieces for the longterm. Doesn’t feel like it at the moment but there’s bound to be a recovery of sorts at some point. My income p/f taken a big hit on div projections as has most peoples which is most annoying!
On a brighter note there’s a lot of birds nesting in the trees and some of the boxes we put up are attracting interest.

Lol! Tread carefully mate all the neighbours up there are p-ed off as they’ve just realised their pensions are as ‘expletive deleted’ as our portfolios and armed to the teeth!!!
Plus the parsnip seeds only went in yesterday so there’s no grub up there....yet!!

At least we’ll be able to say in years to come ‘we were there’!
AA,looking in periodically but focusing on planting veg,chopping wood etc etc etc and sourcing and delivering stuff to oldies and friends who’ve already shut themselves away.

Evening all. Didn’t know Langtro got banned,what on earth happened there?
Had a very interesting morning at Morrisons, queues to the checkouts all the way to the back of the store and when I finally got there the horror of seeing a self checkout was akin to the feeling I have these days when I see the opening prices!
Thankfully there was a ‘fork’ in the queue at the finishing line to a proper checkout lady.....whether there will be some relief looking at the share prices however remains to be seen!

Just made some more bird boxes so will be putting one on a post in his ‘area’ shortly so he’s got a bit of company from the smaller birds.

The old girl boring as ever,not much yield,galliford just disappointed with a penny declared so steering clear and costain axes the final and comes out saying they’re raising at an undisclosed price/time despite being net cash already....not sure whether to bother with them for a while and my favourite Keller ones still way above where I got in before!

Another one that’s moved around a lot today is imperial brands which is quite peculiar as it’s such a so called defensive stock and although it’s sensitive to the usual currency etc factors it’s not to the rapidly changing oil price! I haven't fully digested it as closing prices seem to be different everywhere you look today but from what I can tell there’s been a couple of hundred points swing!

There’s too many big divs to list but banks,aviva types all up there along with the big oilies and things like dgoc to name a few.
Funny how the time gets filled and waking up just before the markets provides a structured day as much as anything else.....Rosie also seems to sense it’s time to have a quick look around before the bell!!

With the benefit of hindsight I’d have sold everything at Christmas and bought it all back yesterday late afternoon but even that wouldn’t have helped with stuff like marstons and that annoying purchase of some Marks and Sparks this morning!!!
I’m greedy for divs but have never been good at holding profits otherwise it’d be a worse picture on my stuff!
I think the oil price has exacabated the drop as my shell are now half the averaged down price but at least in amongst the paper losses the yields look higher!!

Yep,winners and losers in the decisions we make now ...regrets I’ve had a few lol,longterm view who knows where we’ll end up.
Virus will swing somewhere in between the end of the world as we know it to the biggest over-reaction in modern times....it’s a big middle!
Lessons I learned from 2008 was not to chase losses too much and keep to companies not overloaded with debt but the only certainty is that the market is uncertain and I honestly believe you just get lucky and unlucky irrespective of any charts or fundamentals.
Native trees attract native birds,noticed a few budding this week and spring on the way.

Just did a quick look and I’m down over 40% on the so-called quality bluechips in a month,scary stuff!
Gardening a much better idea,glad you’ve done a Wassatt tree as I have and a few others planted around his ‘area’.
Very humbling time for many and those who think their investments are immune to this drop will be in for an equally humbling time!

What a month! Thought the whole thing with the virus was a bit over played but looking at the closing prices I’m finding it hard to think of any positives other than all the shuffling I’ve done in the last few weeks has increased my overall yield assuming they pay it!
Got lucky on one day trade and everything else I’ve bought and averaged down on is now an even more longterm hold lol.

Well it’s bound to be stuffed to the gunnels with shell,Bp,hsbc etc as that’s where the income is generated but I wouldn’t worry about it as these big caps always fluctuate,just knowing when to add/reduce and try and gain advantage is my dilemma as with most income seekers although most people who own shares probably don’t look at them as much as we do!!
Trusts,pension funds etc well diversified so I wouldn’t lose too much sleep on that score.

Annoying that those of us with oil shares get stuck in the middle of a big spat/power play by the big producing nations on top of the virus panic and all it’s perceived consequences.....those divvies are going to be very costly ones methinks!
It’ll certainly be interesting and my only view from the banking crash days is that the winners and losers lottery is skewed towards the bigger caps and Lady Luck playing her part in the big mix.
There does seem to be a lot of chat about oil but it’s worth remembering gas production and usage is massive too....maybe those caravan gas bottle refills will get cheaper lol.
