RE: UPDATE ON BERNARD/AIM DISCUSSION31 Mar 2026 11:01
Hi George,
I think the key here is separating Phase 1 and Phase 2 properly, then focusing on what still needs to be proven.
Phase 1 is already operational as a DMS plant, fed by Ngoualana with a circa 4MT resource. That gives roughly 4 years mine life as it stands.
Phase 2 is different. It is primarily a flotation development, with DMS expected to continue running in parallel. The flotation feed is intended to come mainly from Boumou, supported by Sogola Baoulé and additional targets not yet fully defined in the JORC resource.
What the recent drilling is trying to solve is quite specific:
First, Phase 2 currently has no defined mine life sufficient to support a financial investment decision. The drilling needs to establish a resource base large enough to underpin a flotation operation with a credible life of around 8 to 15 years.
Second, Boumou itself is key. It looks like a mixed ore body, where coarse material may be suitable for DMS, while finer material feeds flotation. That split is critical because it affects both recovery assumptions and overall project economics.
Third, the Phase 1 DMS operation also needs extending. A 4 year mine life is not enough. It needs to move to at least 6 to 8 years to generate sustained cash flow while Phase 2 is developed and commissioned.
Fourth, the combined operating model matters. Kodal Minerals have indicated that DMS and flotation could run in parallel for several years. If proven, that supports a combined output in the region of 330kt to 350kt, which materially strengthens the overall project economics.
So in simple terms, the “numbers behind the numbers” need to show:
A defined and scalable flotation resource, primarily at Boumou
Clear metallurgical separation between DMS suitable and flotation material
Extended mine life for DMS to support early cash flow
A credible combined production profile during parallel operations
Once those are demonstrated through drilling and updated studies, then Phase 2 becomes investable.
