I’ve just got back from Trafford Centre & Manchester City centre. Crazy crazy busy, picked up around £500 myself, all new season styles, I’m not one for sale generally.

A lot of seasonal staff still on the books I reckon, will see staff numbers fall from next week id imagine when uni’s go back & kids head back to school & parents back to work etc….

Saw an Instagram post earlier of a shoplifter at Westfield centre being dragged back into JD by security 😂. (Store in the background was heaving too by the way)

Invest, or don’t invest, short or don’t short, totally up to you but you certainly aren’t going to convince this board when you think JD & Sports direct are in any way comparable, through product offering, target demographic or business models.

You say you understand gen Z yet in the same breath think sports direct is a viable shopping option against JD.

You simply don’t understand both offerings in each store and their target demographic.

Yes you’re right, I’ve always used Q4 terminology as the general trading calendar, as I’ve worked in fashion the past 15years. You’re correct though, JD’s FY Q4 is Nov-Jan.

Apologies FL do have ON Running. Recently launched with them.

Q4 spans from 1st October - 31 December, and you’ve started your ‘discount research’ in the final week of December, in the SALE period 🧐😉

Frasers = 90% UK. Sports direct biggest revenue generator, however still rely HEAVILY on luxury via Flannels.

FootLocker = Lost direction with their consumer for several years now.

Nike = made some incredibly naive decisions thinking they could pivot to a much stronger DTC model whilst disrupters all moved in on their space, ON Running, HOKA etc…. (JD have them all, Frasers & Foot Locker do not)

JD also now operate like a marketplace online for several brands, including Adidas….zero stock risk….more products available.

If you think any of the above have better business models, I’d advise start with researching the sector as a whole first before walking into London & seeing by how much JD have discounted a pair of Nikes…..

For that to be any use, I imagine you did the same last year in order to even begin to form some sort of comparison? and that you did this across a big enough data pool of stores? Hitting 1 or two random stores out of 4500+ and in only one area/territory is kinda pointless, no?

What level of discount is running in Times Square NYC? Barcelona, SPAIN? Trafford Centre, Manchester…..what is JD’s current strategy around trade discount with brands (enhancing intake margin?) therefore protecting sales margin?

You need to know what you are comparing, a line in the sand from a point in time.
