Is it really the job of the board to put out an RNS becuase of short term volatility in the sp? Surely they only care about the long term sp as in what it will be in 1-5 years not its change over 1-2 months.

@Prayfor, the good news around covid doesn't really get in the news much, it only focuses on the bad, and when there is no bad they focus on the future second wave, even though the WHO said it is all one big wave.

If cine can also get a nice 2026 loan that would be good, in this period we will have the release of Avatar 2, 3, and 4 (possibly 5 if the films are brought back forward). The first film grossed 2.79 billion at the box office back in 2009.

It seems like the cash burn per month must have been more like 100m dollars? Slightly surprising, though they do have the most cinemas so with a forced closure will have the worst cash burn.

Exactly RS, maybe investors will have to hold for longer than were originally planning but it is clear for cinemas there is scope for credit if needed.

Spoon_key at some point we have to lose the fear of cases...ultimately when it comes to deaths the average age of death from covid is quoted at between 78 and 81, this is basically normal life expectancy age. Unless we have randomly decided that it's unacceptable for someone to die of this but okay for them to die of other things then I'm not sure what we're waiting for...covid 19 isn't more special or aberrant than all the other infectious dieseases that have killed elder and vulnerable people since the dawn of time.

It looks like AMC are due to report their second quarter results after US close today...will be interesting to see how it affects their futures I imagine cinewords would be similar to theirs.

They made the statement that they had sufficient liquidity for the year on 28th May, pulled out of cineplex on 15th June. They would have been aware of possible legal proceedings on the 28th when they made the statement.

"‘Cineworld expects that this additional liquidity, to the extent required, will provide it with sufficient headroom to support the group even in the unlikely event cinemas remain closed until the end of the year,’ said the company."

They already have the liquidity they need, unless you think covid will get worse they should be able to borrow more next year if ever needed.

Cineworld was going to borrow 2.3 billion to buy cineplex, Mooky clearly would have the capacity to borrow more in the short term if ever it was needed. Debt is cheap atm, there is still talk of negative interest rates in the future. Also the banks are much better capitalized and able to lend than was the case in 2008.
Mookys already confirmed they could stay afloat shut for the rest of the year, they wouldn't lie about this what would be the point? If they needed money desperately they would have raised more now both in debt and from shareholders.
AMC in much worse debt but stock way higher no idea why, cineworld seems to get a much harder time than AMC and Cineplex.

Congrats, I would have done if I had anything left to play with. This was £1 2 months ago, not much has changed since then other than things are opening around a month later than was thought then. Obv that's less good but not to the extent of this drop.

@wiseabout, really sad to hear about your tuck shop money, but I think you should hold, sell in one year and you'll be buying king size mars etc instead of normal size.

Though AMC did have almost 2 billion total current liability and 673 million total current assets. Whereas cine had 1 and half billion current liabilities and 450 million current assets. So AMC sp compared to cine still a mystery.

Actually I think I was mis-reading AMC, think they had 275 million in cash perhaps, i guess that would be a factor

AMC trading at over half it's pre-covid price despite worse finanical position than cineworld...looks like at Dec 2019 they had only 275,500 dollars in cash whereas cineworld had 140 million in cash, unless I'm misunderstanding AMC's statement but it seems to say in thousands.
Then total liabities - AMC's almost 3 billion higherthan cineworlds but assets only just over 1 billion higher than cineworlds.
Yet AMC over half its precovid yet cineworld less than 20 percent.
