AMC futures now back up to 4.08 after closing at 4.10 before the news. Therefore down just 0.49%, equivelent to cineworld dropping to 38.31p.

I'm not surprised, who would pay 30 dollars for the small screen?! People mull over paying £20 for Imax!

Exactly it will dip sure, but potentially in a week or two depending on Mooky we might be focussed on the fact that Tenet and Mulan will both be out in a few weeks after that. Less people will see Mulan than previously thought but how many less? 30 dollars seems like a lot to me for the small screen.

Cinemark futures seems to drop by 2.8%, AMC by about 2%. If we say that cineworld dropped by 2.4% then would see around 37.57p tomorrow so maybe not the disaster people are saying here, atleast so far.
However as we all know cineworld is volatile and seems to get traded down much harder than AMC and cinemark, despite having similar risks and being undervalued in comparison to these two.

A cineworld family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children is £23, one child ticket is £5.75 (atleast at my cineworld). So you'd have to have atleast 3 kids before it would be potentially be breaking even to watch it at home than the cinema?

Seems like it will hurt both disney and the cinemas...cinemas coz it might take away 15-20% of their viewers, disney because I can't imagine many people paying 30 dollars, and there is increased chance of piracy which will attract the type of person who is happy to watch it home more than the person who would prefer to watch it at cinema therefore hurting disney more.

Maybe Mooky could make an exception making it clear its just for this extremely unusual year.

Couldn't you see it as mixed news...the biggest fear people seem to have around cineworld is liquidity, now Mulan could be out in cinemas in a month. Disney plus could take some of the people who go to the cinema away but how much, if 80 percent of the expected cinema goers still went to the to see it, thats still a better outcome than if it was delayed months further? Long term it could set a bad precedent, but the cinemas could get strict again once covid has lessened as an issue? Mooky could argue that, they are atleast charging people 30 dollars to watch it at home, might help him save face? lol

Maybe the cinemas should go along with it in this moment just because they're all in a more difficult position than studios atm. However next year they could start playing hard ball again as a unit and go back to not showing films that don't respect the window.
Unless I'm misunderstanding it seems people have to pay 30 dollars even if they're subscribed to disney, surely there's only an incentive if you're a family with more than 2-3 kids?

Yeah coz I switched to shorting this morning. Just kidding, I don't think it's a major thing...arguably matched by the number of people keen to get out after being stuck working at home so long!

One slight negative at the moment is the lack of people in the office, so less socializing and small talk where people ask "what did you do last weekend" "I saw tenet" etc which is like free marketing and aids to creating the buzz. Thats maybe part of the reason some people don't even know cinemas are open at the moment. I think eventually people will go back to the offices atleast part time, or find ways to make up for the socializing they have lost so this effect won't be perm but maybe impacts things a tiny bit in the short term.

Exactly Rutts, the same thing as how everyone can eat at home everyday for cheaper if they wanted but are still willing to pay a premium to go out to eat.
