GO and no GO24 Jun 2020 00:25
TBH decommissioning the GO is a good move. The leap from the GO to the QUEST truly is mind blowing. We all know that it will be the game and porn industry that will make VR go mainstream but things need to be at least 6dof to have the wow factor (which currently adds nothing to the Melody experience). If your first VR experience is on the GO then I fear for some it would be their last. The MelodyVR viewer will give you a better experience than the GO and the same for any cheap £20 VR Viewer headset you can get off eBay. The Quest 2 or Quest S will come out (possibly by the end of the year but Covid might have put this back) but I would expect the Quest to drop price before Xmas. As said the glasses on the near horizon will add nothing to Melody as we need 360 full view which can't be achieved using AR, AR will just be overlays. We need higher resolution for the experience to be better. The sound is currently spot on just the picture is sub standard on current VR devices. What concerns me is Melodys total lack of taking advantage of everything their doing. They've had some pretty big names but are having no-where near the penetration they should be achieving. I know people stick up for the marketing department but trust me on this, someone / some people in there haven't got a clue. I see continued SIMPLE errors, lackadaisical marketing with next to no engagement. Someone needs to stand up and be counted. This seems to be just the same mistakes over and over continually. I'm actually starting to lose patients with their marketing attempts. I keep expecting something to kick in... but it never does! It's almost as if they keep banging the same blunt nail into a post... yes, it will eventually go in.. but one good hit with the right hammer and it's in. They are struggling big time to pick up traction when they should be picking users up in bucket loads. It's beyond me... I'm going to put my neck out there and say someone needs to take the bullet. Users could be at least 100x what they are currently achieving.
