Giantsquid,
Sorry, but to write that the USA is unaffected is plain wrong, or "rubbish", to put it in your words.
The price of crude will stay high, and indeed go higher, the longer the Strait of Hormuz is not fully open. This would benefot the USA as a nett exporter of crude (light crude, to be precise). This would mean high petrol proces prices for the ordinary US driver and for US businesses. The price of crude is determined by wor,d oil markets. The USA would basically have to ban the e port of crude oil from the US in order to shield itself from world prices. But, should it do that, then the oil companies would slow down or stop extraction if they cannot get the best prices and wait fornthe export ban to end.
If the rest of the world were to suffer high crude oil proces for a long time, then they woukd likely have to stop buying as much US exports of goods and services as more of their money would be going on energy consumption. So, the USA would be negatively affected indorectly too.
So, however you cut it, the USA would be affected, both positvely and negatively, directly amd indirectly.
Why do you think Trump is threatening Iran with "hell" if it does not agree to open the Strait of Hormuz by a deadline?
