When these awards are made, where do the shares come from? Do they issue new shares which in turn increases total shares in issue? Or do they buy shares on the open market with company (our) money to make the award?
Normal dividend v special dividend23 Mar 2021 08:48
Is their any distinction between ordinary dividend and special dividend for taxation purposes? Ordinary dividends are classed as income and taxed as an income distribution. How are special dividends classed for taxation? Am I right in thinking a special dividend is not classed as income but a return of capital to share holders? If so how is it treated for taxation?
An RNS was released today announcing "Indicative results of Tender Offer"? Can anyone give a brief description to a green investor what this is all about?
what's new; at close of trading FTSE up, Legal and General up, Direct Line up, and AVIVA DOWN! Logical expectation is that Aviva SP would trickle up until x-divi date, not down?
Benrith - I thought Aviva France sale would not be finalised until end of year? I cant see to much headway from where we are now with SP until the board announce how the excess cash is to be returned to share holders.
DLG today proposed final dividend of 14.7p and also announced a share buy back programme of 100m. No mention of any special dividend? Wonder when we will get any information on how Aviva will return excess cash to share holders?
The general consensus to Annual Results so far seems to be very positive. I'm still taking nothing for granted until the market opens, only then will we see if the market likes the results.
I think when 14p is declared as dividend on 4th March then there will be positive movement on SP in the run up to ex dividend date which would be a little over 1 month so assuming no market wobbles along the way SP could rise to 390 - 400?
I thought the 14p was only an estimate from the Board at the time the 7p dividend was declared, with the final decision only being declared at the annual results on 4th March?
