Is Quidel really only 80%? That doesn't sound very good? I'll be dissapointed if the Avacta Affimer based tests are less than 95% and very dissapointed if they're less 90%. The language used so far indicates it should be pretty good, so I am hopeful of a positive outcome when Cytiva get the test working and publish some numbers.
If I had recently been somehwere there was a large number of people, whether that be shopping, gym, or even just to a friends house, whatever. Would I be confident to go and see my Grandmother if there was more than a 5%-10% chance of a false negative? Probably not.
The same applies if I had a PCR test result, from a swab I sent 2 days ago. If I had been somewhere busy in the 2 days previous, would I go and see my Grandmother? Again, probably not.
I would apply the same thought process to boarding a plane. if there's 150 people on that plane being screened with an accuracy of 80% before boarding, those odds are not good.
The need for an instant reliable test is massive. Not just for boarding planes, boats, going to work... but also just for normal day to day stuff like going to see family.
