RE: St George's Day19 Apr 2020 10:37
I'm not going to attempt to enter into any scientific discussion because I don't have enough knowledge to do so.
Some thoughts, though - surely there will be a place for both types of tests, we won't see just one type being used?
If somebody asked me, "what's more accurate, a 10 minute quick test or lab test?" my answer would absolutely be lab test.
This is fine in locations such as hospitals where there's a lab and you can get a quick result, but we are talking about day to day life. People arriving for work, going to visit an elderly relative, boarding a plane, whatever.
There's also numerous news articles about the swabbing being painful. I have no idea if this is actually true (I guess it depends on how sensitive the subject is and how good to person doing the swabbing is), but that's going to put some people off getting tested voluntarily.
Finally, we have the issue of less developed countries where they aren't fortunate enough to have an abundance of labs and well eqiupped hospitals. What are they supposed to do?
I don't believe anybody is suggesting this will be as accurate (or should I say sensitive or specific to keep Wbernard happy?) as a lab test - and it's kind of missing the point anyway.
