RE: Update17 Nov 2021 20:11
The L Series obviously is viable, or ABB would NEVER have gone to the lengths of purchasing one, spending time and money integrating it with their own EV Charger and Battery Storage and then SUCCESSFULLY testing it.
"Over the summer, both companies SUCCESSFULLY delivered a fully integrated charging system at ABB's packaging facility in Estonia. AFC Energy's "L" Series fuel cell technology was operated in conjunction with ABB's energy storage and EV charging technology for the first time, validating the operability and communications architecture developed by the companies in the first half of 2021."
If it was not viable, ABB would have skipped right past it a year ago and gone straight to the S Series with the same fast-track deal they just agreed to with AFC. Which from the below suggests to me that ABB have seen the prototype S Series FC and seen the data from it, which is why they struck a deal ASAP, not because of anything bad about the L Series.
"FOLLOWING PROGRESS MADE by AFC Energy in delivering on its new high energy dense "S" Series AEM fuel cell technology, ABB and AFC Energy have now entered into a Sale and Development Agreement ("the Agreement") for the purchase of a 200kW hydrogen powered fuel cell generator."
It would have been nice if AB had done a Proactive Investors or Directors Talk video, to confirm that the L Series will still be used by ABB, as per the agreement of December 2020.
No S Series was expected in the second half of 2021, so this could only be the L Series, and now it is built and ready to go, from the second half of 2021 as per the agreement.
"ABB and AFC Energy to develop and launch a bespoke high power EV charging product for distribution through ABB's market channels from the second half of 2021."
And the agreement is based on the L Series, not the S Series.
"The JPDA will deliver a fully autonomous, high power EV charging system capable of deployment in the UK, Europe, United States and elsewhere, building on the system launched by AFC Energy in December 2019 and showcased across the UK earlier this year."
Also, the L Series product is a joint venture, so and decision on moving ahead with the product also involves an AFC decision, and I would expect AFC to only sign an agreement for the S Series fast-tracking, if the L Series product was going ahead with ABB.
"Both companies will jointly market the integrated product across the key addressable markets and will collaboratively develop a communications strategy for system branding and deployment."
