Johnson pledges legal help to woo electric vehicle giant Rivian to Britain

The PM has told Rivian boss RJ Scaringe that the government would use a special development order to facilitate the rapid construction of a new manufacturing plant at a site near Bristol, Sky News learns.

Circa £60m in the bank, it'll be a LONG TIME before AFC need to look for any finance, and by then, as SuperStarr says, the share price will be pounds.

I also see the future as investment into AFC by it's partners, as we have already seen with De Nora and ABB investing in AFC, so there won't be the usual trashing by traders and shorters on leaked information about market fund raisings, as the deals will be done in the AFC boardroom with the partners and announced the next day, maintaining the share price.

The good thing with this deal is that shipping NEED the solution so they can cut their emissions. I doubt AFC will see much pushing back on costs for the Fuel Cell and Ammonia Cracker system, as that is just a small-ish one off CAPEX cost which is easily absorbed.

The shipping industry will instead leverage their size to get the best deals on Ammonia supplies, as fuel is the big ongoing cost for shipping, as the difference in cost per tonne can add up to quite a lot over a year with several vessels running.

Why buy and hold over the long term can literally pay BIG dividends. Traders will still be scraping the barrel for their rent money when AFC start paying dividends to the long term holders....

It should be noted that while Buffett is known as a value investor who aims to buy extremely "cheap" stocks, he didn't buy Coca-Cola at that low a valuation -- at least by 1988 standards. At the time of purchase in 1988, Coca-Cola was trading around 14.7 times forward earnings, and it had a dividend yield around 3%.

That would certainly look cheap today, but stocks weren't valued as highly back then as they are today. In fact, Coke's price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio was actually more expensive than the overall S&P 500 at that time. After all, the 10-year treasury yield was between 8% and 9% for much of that period, compared with just 1.3% today. In general, as interest rates fall, stock valuations rise.

Of note, Coca-Cola had actually gone up every year between 1980 and 1988, and had compounded at 18.7% for the five years prior to Buffett's purchase. So much for value investing!

And yet, the stock was grossly undervalued

We all know the rest of the story. Though already a large company, Coca-Cola went on to generate spectacular returns for Berkshire. Thanks to blockbuster earnings growth, Coca-Cola has raised its dividend from about $0.07 per share (split-adjusted) to $1.68 today -- an increase of 24 times. That's even greater than the 17-fold increase in Coca-Cola's stock price since then.

Based on today's dividend, Berkshire will receive $672 million in Coca-Cola dividends for its 400 million shares. This is against Berkshire's overall cost basis of $1,299 million, good for a yield of 51.7%.

We could still use Green Ammonia of course, if it works out cheaper than Acciona's own produced Green Hydrogen.

Acciona planning ahead. Clearly this also covers fuel provisioning for AFC off grid generators at Acciona sites.

At £5,000 per kW that would be a market just for Norway of £2.7 billion, just for the 450 cargo ships.

Alkamem has not been the subject of any commercial trials. AFC announced that 'samples' had gone out to interested parties, this is nothing to do with commercially trialling it, the recipients of it will give it to their R&D department to see if it is suitable for use in their products, with or without further development by AFC. That is not a trial, it is R&D testing and evaluation, then feedback to AFC so that AFC can work on developing better versions, which are then tested again, and eventually AFM might get to a version that the company can use in a commercial trial, which would then need to be announced by AFC, as Alkamem is then deemed commercially viable in that product.

The main points saying it's not an AFC electrolyser or Alkamem are:

1) AFC has never announced to the market that it has a commercial design for an electrolyser.
2) AFC have not announced that Alkamem is now a commercially viable product (it's still in the lab)
3) AFC has never announced any plans to manufacture an electrolyser

Every other product AFC is working on was announced way before we had a commercial product to go out for trials, and when they were deemed 'commercially viable and ready for trials', that was announced too.

AFC said 'several new product releases before the end of 2021", but these are unlikely to be straight into commercial trials, they'll still need to go through the R&D process in the lab until they are announced as 'commercially viable' before they get anywhere near something like a trial at Extreme E.

The reason products are announced so early in their life, is so that the whole market can put a value on those products and extrapolate a new fair valuation for the company, based on the increased product range. These products, if commercially viable and planned to go into commercial trials and then production, have to be announced to the market, as it is price sensitive information.

I would have thought so. Is there anything in the competition rules that say Extreme E success, sales to Juelich and Acciona, recent £4m sale to ABB, working with Ricardo, Altaaqa, ABB etc is not enough to win the competition?

The competition appears to be about the future not the past:

I cannot see any chance of it being based on Alkamem. We have not even announced we are working on an electrolyser let alone shown the market a prototype. If one was to be used at Extreme E it would have to have already been a proven technology, not something just emerging from lab scale trials.

In the Extreme E news we used "micro-alkaline water electrolysis, which removes the need to store and transport hydrogen to different race meetings"

De Nora are the experts in this field and I suggest it is one of their electrolysers we used.

Three main electrolyzer technologies are used or being developed today: Alkaline (AWE) is well established and has been used in industry for nearly a century, proton exchange membrane (PEMWE) is commercially available today, and solid oxide (SOWE) is still in the development phase.

De Nora has, in recent years, maximized AWE operating current density (CD) and reduced its overall power consumption, pushing this technology toward PEMWE performances, but guaranteeing the overall lower CAPEX investment.

AWE electrolyzers equipped with the electrodic De Nora package inside are able, today, to provide the lower Total Cost of Hydrogen (TCH) for the Power to Hydrogen installation. An alternative to the De Nora “package” could supply, eventually, the active electrodes only, utilizing customers' proprietary drawings and therefore offering easy installation inside the existing electrolysis cells / stacks.
