Interesting situation currently:

1) I think due to ever-increasing energy needs, and cost of renewables and nuclear, we MUST NEED FOSSIL FUELS WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT. That's if you don't mind bankrupting the country as well (which of course needs ever-cheaper electricty costs)

2) Labour are shouting about growth, and are desperate to re-industrialise (a pre-requisite of which is cheap power).

3) The government's last word is all about closing the NS, and stopping new licences, massive tax, etc etc.

4) So... the sentiment in the North Sea is at the absolute bottom, with everyone totally exhausted.

5) And prices match that.

6) - yet - we literally CAN'T CONTINUE LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!

If you have the balls, there is an awful lot of money to be made here!

Well, if there was another plan for WI, or if Neo had given up - this termination point would be a great way to get out of the deal.

With Scope 3 and Longer-term tax coming in weeks, seems extremely likely all parties are waiting (inculding Dana) - like shareholders - for the outcome.

If the political news is good, JOG has a clear runway for liftoff. Fingers crossed.

People really do sell for all sorts of reasons unrelated to fundamentals. Also no-one is being forced to buy it, so someone more than happy to take a punt!

It always makes me laugh when the Scots bang on how we should be more like Scandinavia! If you have ever dealt with the average Scot versus average say Swede you will notice quite a cultural difference!

I think viewing Thatcher's policies in the context of socialist Norway doesn't help us understand much.

5.5m people Norway Vs post-industrial/ post empire UK with 67m odd people is a different game. We were still fighting the cold war. We were recovering from an economically devastating period of socialism.

Yes it's all well and good to support an entire population on massive oil per capita (or example, with a sovereign wealth fund of $1.4 trillion, that makes $200,000 per person. The UK with 67 million, if the UK had a sovereign wealth fund of $850 billion, that would be around $13,000 per person).

Anecdotally, I am working with a business with operations all over Scandinavia. Apparently is very hard to grow the business in Norway as most people clock off early afternoon/ won't really do any more than the minimum (this is a high-end IT business).

Unfortunately the UK is totally screwed. None of this is in public debate because vaste swathes of the elites in civil service, media, politics, corporations are captured by a coerced, self-serving group think.

Anyone speaking out risks total ostracism, damaged career prospects and even getting fired. I say this not only ranting from my local Weatherspons (well ok a bit) but from interactions with all of these elites which comes as part of my job. The civil service in particular is completely Marxist/leninist 1970s socialism. Even the army has been wokeified in the field officer class and above. If you asked the BBC news room 'hands up who voted Tory in the last election', I don't think you'd get one hand.

Unfortunately socialism is an incredibly persuasive idea if 1) you don't have a lot of cash or are paid and pensioned by the state, 2) it's been a while since we've watched socialism crash and burn and 3) the bond markets still permit government largess.

This year I moved my family and business overseas, and intend to stay abroad until UK comes to its senses.

It's just horrible watching a country with so many advantages it hurts shoot itself in the foot, knees and anywhere else it can manage (UK stockmarket, O&G, HS2, Finance sector, London the global city, Covid borrowing, etc etc etc)

For what it's worth, I am taking a 3-5 month trade horizon looking for Scope 3 and future of WFT to resolve. Now is the time for selling pressure on the stock, and if you believe that the worth of a business is not today's price action, now would be the time to accumulate.

I think there is a strong argument to chase it once news hits, but at these lows (where it's a TO target as parkmead shows) you are pretty safe, unless NS news gets worse. But how bad do you want it to get before buying! I do wish I'd waited a bit however.

I remember the good old days when we all understood that "should be taken out and shot" was a metaphor...

Or..... talk it down for the next few weeks and wait for the news on Scope 3 and future WFT, when price rockets? Rinse repeat MT...
