So was the announcement about the Easa approval for the Trent XWB-97. It was in the same article I quoted from below, so your 12.26 post was also 2 days behind the news curve. Oh and no I am not a journalist.

Airbus revealed that the newly certified Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engine-powered A350-1000 aircraft is now on target for first customer delivery by the year end and that Airbus has secured a total of 169 orders for A350-1000 aircraft by 11 different customers from five continents to date. All good stuff.

I agree and found it difficult to judge the impact. It may be that under the new rules and at least for a transition period things will look worse. My feeling is that one thing East has achieved (in addition to his success in the restructuring) is better communication with the markets regarding progress, expectations and deliverables. Lets hope we don't get an overreaction when the new rules kick in and perhaps make things look bleaker than they actually are over the longer term.

Yes we know all of that and I did not mention the word "servicing" but service (as in the maintenance contract). The part of your previous post I was asking about was "It will show how cash rich the business is more transparency around the volume of cash RR has in reserve". can you tell us why the new accountancy practices will shed light on this "cash reserve"aspect of RR's business?

Milken, I presume you are referring to the piece in the Wall Street Journal this past Sunday? Nothing we did not really know in that "Starting Jan. 1, 2018, Rolls-Royce will no longer be able to put money from maintenance contracts on its books years before it begins to do the work. The company must wait to record that revenue until the actual service is provided. This is typically years after the company sells the engines at a loss." Not sure how this translates into us finding out that RR is sitting on a huge reserve of cash that we have been kept in the dark about under the previous accounting regime, but perhaps our insider can enlighten us all?

Crikey, if they are in the Toby Carvery's, I would take that as an indication of UK market saturation. They will be selling it in Burger King and KFC at this rate!

Yes they were placed with institutions but at 3.9% of the stock spread over a number of buyers how do we know they are not sellers into the market in tranches when they see an opportunity? We are still well over the strike price so they stand to make big gains by selling. Alternatively, perhaps the market thinks that Rolls will sell more shares once his 6 month no selling period expires at the end of this month.

Don't forget that Charles Rolls sold 4,500,000 FEVR shares representing approximately 3.9 per cent. of the issued share capital at a price of 1,625 pence back in May. The current price represents a significant increase over that and the institutions that bought are under no obligation to hold. Thus the recent trading announcement and SP rise may have triggered more sells and thus the rise was not sustained. Also Mr Rolls only agreed not to dispose of any further stock for a period of 6 months, which is up very soon. He may well sell more stock into the market and this will also keep the price down.

Record $50Bn order for Airbus but nowt in it for RR as planes will all be powered by CFM International LEAP-1A or Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines. Was RR wise not to engage with the narrow bodied aircraft market? In contrast in the A380 SuperJumbo arena, where RR do have a foothold, orders seem to be drying up.

Just look at the 3year chart and you can see that the sudden rise from circa �17.50 up to �25 was rather irrational short term over exuberance. Probably the herd mentality thinking this can only go one way. We are now back to the trend line of a less dramatic underlying steady rise and might expect it to follow this rather than yo-yo ing about providing that the results continue to be ahead of broker/market expectations.

Had another run in with Hermes this week. Their "service provider" (how ironic is that term?) tried to deliver a parcel to my wife on Monday/Tues/Wed leaving a card each time stating "to rearrange or discuss your delivery phone the driver at the number given below" except of course that the driver always omits to fill in their name and number so you have no way of intervening. The customer services phone number is unmanned and simply refers you back to their FAQ website. A complaint has gone into NEXT who use these clowns with a sharp reminder that no further orders will be forthcoming if the end result is always that we have to pick up in store. No wonder NEXT is in trouble as well!
