I took a gamble on BP immediately post-Macondo when there was talk of them actually going under. It has been one of my best investments to date. However, some of the blatantly fraudulent claims made by businesses in the GOM were more befitting of a banana republic or the worst excesses of corruption in some African states. This will only get worse under Trump, who is clearly way out of his depth in both domestic and foreign policy and a blatant liar to boot.

If the Bombardier case is anything to go by, I would not be holding my breath on that one. A lesson that the UK government should have been learned after the disgraceful way that BP was treated by the US authorities (both State and Federal) post Macondo.

I know RR have already paid $800M in mitigation of this transgression to US authorities and cooperated with same to pursue the case. However, it is hardly great news reputation wise for RR. Former employees or not, how many more cases are pending and for how long will prosecutions like this drag RR's name through the mud?

The indictment alleges that Petros Contoguris, working with employees of an international engineering consulting firm (Technical Advisor), including Andreas Kohler, devised a scheme with Rolls-Royce executives and employees, including Johhannes Zuurhout, Keith Barnett and James Finley, whereby Rolls-Royce would pay kickbacks to the Technical Advisor employees, and bribes to at least one foreign official, and disguise these payments as commissions to Contoguris�s company, Gravitas, in exchange for helping Rolls-Royce win contracts with Asia Gas Pipeline LLP (AGP).

My last batch of C shares were converted into ordinary shares a good while ago now. I have to specify my choice each time these C shares are issued by ticking a box online with Halifax. I normally ignore TMF as they can oscillate between "best thing since sliced bread" and "Sell Sell Sell" within a few days, but on balance this commentary on the results seems to be a fairly even handed review of the numbers. Another "delivery" from this crew yesterday (NEXT) left out in the rain under a barbecue. Singapore Airlines signs $13.8bn Boeing deal. 39 aircraft comprising 777-9 and 787-10's. Nothing there for us in the 777-9's as these have an invariant powerplant in the new GE9X. However, as I understand it the 787's can be fitted with either the Trent 1000 TEN or the GEnx-1B. Anyone have any idea if RR will get orders for the Trent through this deal? Finally it was noted that several customers are very disappointed at the lack of engine choice on the Boeing 777-9's, but Boeing have responded that engineering engine flexibiity into new airframes is simply not cost effective. Is this the future, where airframe manufacturers effectively dictate the choice of engine at source and how does this bode for RR going forward?

Good news about the maiden flight of this new Trent 7000-powered airliner. Lets hope the order book is filling up as it enters service in the middle of next year.

Don't take this the wrong way as I have some sympathy with your position in all of this. However, both you and the CWU both know that a great deal of the leverage that the union has over RMG has everything to do with the timing of industrial action. Disruption to the business in the first 2 weeks of December, over which a great deal of RMG's business is conducted, carries much more of a threat than action taken in January. Why did the CWU not push for the external mediation much earlier? Or were they unaware that it was written into the Agenda for Growth they signed up for?
