Reported widely this weekend. "Analysts are predicting that shareholders of Aviva could be in for a spike in the value of their dividends, ahead of the insurer's 2017 results." The analysts' consensus is that Aviva's dividend is likely to grow 13 per cent on last year's figure to hit 26.4p per share.

RR. is expected to reveal that the total cost for fixing the problematic Trent 1000 engine on Boeing�s 787 Dreamliner will come to more than �300m in the next year, when it reports annual results on Wednesday. However, analysts do not believe the problems will deflect the UK�s aero-engine maker from its target for �1bn free cash flow by 2020.

Judging by East's comments reported in the Sunday Times flagging up further management job cuts at RR and admitting that the job of restructuring and turning the company around was far more difficult than he had envisaged, I would say a rise in the dividend is unlikely at the moment.

Can anyone disentangle the meaning of the RNS issued today with regard to the "RIGHT TO RECALL LOANED SHARES" the counterparty seems to be Aviva. Were the latter holding a short position in PHNX?

Whitelye. When a rights issue is described as 'fully underwritten" as here, I take this to mean that it will be taken up by institutions only and that shares will not be offered to private investors. Perhaps someone else can give a definitive answer. I too participated fully in the last RI and would do so again.

Over the past 10 years Tesco seem to have managed to turn my local store from a very pleasant shopping space with an intelligent and well thought out fresh produce and fine wine section into a rather dreary warehouse in which successive expansions and changes in the layout have done nothing to entice the public. Last week I noticed that all the TVs in the electrical section (above about 22") had disappeared. The staff seem to be permanently depressed to boot. In contrast, the nearest Lidl is a brand new building, well lit and with very engaging and active staff and a fair range of goods. I conclude that cost cutting is having the same effect on Tesco as it is everywhere else. Problem is you don't have a choice which hospital to visit when sick, but you do when it comes to spending the hard earned on the weekly shop.

Good news or bad? Market seems neutral thus far.

I take it that private investors are excluded from the RI and that it will be dilutive wrt PHNX share value by some 20%?

PHNX buys Standard Life insurance book. The deal includes £2.28bn in cash and a 19.99% shareholding in Phoenix Group. Good news?

DHL logistics won and hold the contract so the buck stops with them. They can of course try blaming the QSL software for the problem BUT it was DHL's responsibility to make sure that the latter was in place and working prior to the start date of the contract. It is a bit like the G4S olympic fiasco really, nobody to blame but themselves and greed.

Well they say that every dog has its day. However, I think this one is just as likely to end up in the glue factory :-(

"DHL are scratching around for any work they can get, undercut Bidvest to get the contract and then tried to run the whole operation out of out of one distribution centre." Why does that sound like a familiar business model? Doh!
