I did not tell you who I voted for at the last election (only who I did not vote for) and neither will I, as that is between me and the ballot box. So please do not make any assumptions about my political persuasion. I did vote to remain in the EU though and nothing that has happened or been said since that referendum has made me question my decision in the slightest :-) PS: my local MP is SNP and I did not vote for him either!

BB You have got to be joking! Have you ever been behind the wheel of a Tesla model S? One of the best cars I have ever had the pleasure of driving. If it were not for the paucity of Supercharger cover north of the border I would have one in a heartbeat. Now that the court case with Ecotricity has been settled in Tesla's favour and motorway forecourts can now be accessed by Tesla chargers, this may change rapidly. Dyson spent $90 million to acquire Sakti3, a startup that claimed it had a vastly superior solid-state battery, only to see that dream fail and he wrote down the asset by $60M last year. The numbers tell you everything. Dyson has put in £2B so far with plans to spend another £1B this year. By contrast VW has already spent £20B and Daimler £10B. He cannot fund this from his own resources so who will partner him? Dyson is 71, will he live to see his car in mass production....I doubt it very much.

Dyson's electric car is no more than a geriatric pipedream. He has already bought a company which was meant to underpin the technology required and written its book value down to zero. Comparing Dyson to Musk is a bit like comparing Ford to Morgan. Personally I think they are both t**ts for very different reasons, but at least Musk has provided a viable battery power storage system for a whole section of the power grid in Australia, developed a reusable space launch vehicle and, judging by the ever increasing number of Tesla's on the roads round here, a viable electric car industry and Dyson? well he has cleaned a few carpets, dried a few hands, washed some clothes and has a slick new hairdryer that nobody can afford. Big deal huh! You could argue that it is because of Elon Musk and Tesla that all the big automotive Co's are now scrambling around trying to catch up with him and that he started the rush to mass market EV's, closely followed by Nissan.

Just because the EU removes import tariffs does not automatically make production of Honda cars in Japan the preferred choice (have to ship production half way around the world). I agree about BMW, useless rear wheel drive and owned mainly by complete bellends. However, Audi's are amongst the best cars I have ever driven and the quattro system remains world beating for mountain roads in winter. As for Lexus, very reliable, but totally boring. A mate of mine has had one for over a decade and it has never broken down but christ he wishes it would, just to give him an excuse to bin it.
