You doing good at that price Birdsong it is only profit or loss until you sell. Mine is 36p. I did contemplate selling at 95p when it was going up but I originally invested for the dividend and at 36p they were a no brainer at the time. Good luck to you though:)

Instead of reinvesting your dividends why don't you drop cash into a cash isa and build up a cash buffer over time. I get the returns can be lower but it will hedge against times such as these whilst still being in stocks and you still get rewarded if they increase and could take advantage of big drops like these if you can time it right (not a guarantee though).

I always have a spread of shares (high, med, low risk) plus cash and preference shares (don't get major uplift with these but they pay a good rate of interest) plus the odd investment trust. I am always 50% cash and no more than 5% in high risk. I carry more cash as I have got older so when world events like this happen It doesn't make a huge difference to me.

I usually get a steady 10 to 15% a year yield year on year not world shattering but happy with that. I'm sure others do much better and some will do worse.

Try to get everything in an isa cash and stocks to limit your tax liability and therefore increase your returns. If you have a partner you can use their isa allowance as well. Just a few ideas for you others will have different opinions depending on your risk profile and how you determine and what you want to invest in.

They are still paying dividends Birdsong and this will also help the buybacks. If you don't have to sell it will work itself out over time.

The US and Israel won't be bombing Iran forever there will be few assets left to hit after a while. Just see what happens once it all calms down see who is left standing and what they can negotiate.
