I never said they did stop wars with each other I asked the question if they had declared war on each other you need to take note of the question mark asi you seem not to notice them and did point out that India and Pakistan were the most likely however they haven't used them yet nor have they declared war on each other to my knowledge.

Yes they may have been working with things prior to the war but their development was accelerated during it.

I never said penicillin was a war time invention.

Someone would have built it asi but it also led to the below inventions from the development of it. Difficult to uninvent something once it is out of the box.

War clearly accelerates R&D but difficult to say how much we would be behind had it not been for the world war whether is is 10, 20 or 50 years is just guesswork.

How is it stable if we are expected to borrow £133 billion this year? After borrowing £116 billion last year with growth around 1 to 1.5% never mind the Iran war and its impact.

How is that fiscal headroom? In another 3 years at that rate there will be another £400 billion added to debt even at 4% interest rates that is another £16 billion debt repayments per year on top off the £250 billion they will already have borrowed and that debt repayment. How can that continue?

That may well be the case troublesome but they still have to pay for it £330 billion so far already £5.5 billion retail debt highest electricity price compared to pretty much anywhere in the world. They are now moving the subsidy from electricity price into general taxation just shuffling the money around and we still have almost no storage capacity which is going to cost a lot more.

Don't see prices coming down certainly not in the next 10 years unless they keep moving subsidies onto general taxation. The gas price will now rocket when it has stayed pretty much around the same price as before the Ukraine war started so all the price rises has been pretty much down to subsidy increase as the industry leaders have already commented on. So massive rises ahead more retail debt, higher inflation etc. Now where did we put the North Sea?

Our gas reserves are pitiful anyway. We only have around 4.5 days if it was full but then we have all the renewables to bail us out or so we are told. Not sure we have enough battery storage capacity though somehow they didn't think to marry that up with the amount of electricity renewables produce maybe they couldn't afford it or didn't think it would be a problem.

You are missing the point about the 5 eyes it is a joint venture with the US, Canada, Aust and NZ. I believe Canada and Australia have spoken out in support of the US in this venture.

When it comes to conflict then the ones participating in it will release information on a need to know basis maybe they didn't think the EU needed to know. The less who know means the less who can inform the object of their attack. Although it wasn't hard to work our where this was going when two US carriers groups turned up in the gulf maybe the EU should have been more proactive in building up their reserves when they had time a few weeks ago?

As I said I am fine with Starmer not wanting to bomb Iran not a problem the refusal to allow the use of our bases was a bad decision especially as we got attacked anyway. It didn't cost us anything to let them use them and would have maintained the goodwill between our countries even though we didn't join in.

As for international law it is not enforceable and is non binding there is no body set up to enforce it so where it doesn't align with national interest then many countries will just ignore it. It is a paper tiger and a lawyers tool. It would be better if it was enforceable and supported unlikely anyone is going to step forward and do that.
