This is my top pick for 2017. Southampton store is the future for this company. If only MA would spend money rolling this out rather than buying private jets. He has bought jets, loads of freeholds and everything possible to reduce profits and keep the share price low. At current interest rates and the assets within the company, he could take this private at £4 a share and repay the debt in 5 years. He would then own the entire company and would not have the press intrusion from a listed company. Job done and MA gets one over on the city

Bought in last week at just over £3 thinking that I had called the bottom of the cycle. To lose 7% in a day is normally a sign that there is more bad news to come. Really hoping that I am wrong but right now regretting my purchase. Is it that Mike Ashley is now so rich that he no longer cares about the shareprice

Good old MA getting all the bad news out there before announcing that he will take it private due to all the adverse media as a public company. I am not selling for less than £4.20 which in my opinion is the true value. Bring it on.

There are 2 ways to grow profits - increase sales or cut costs. There is no potenial to increase sales so he has had to lay off people. Will be interesting to see if this works

This is the first part to a full buyout by Mike Ashley. Increase the proportion of the company that you own by a share buy back. Cannot blame him taking it private so that he can get out of the spot light.

This share price will go down 50% in next 6 months before Mr Ashley takes it private. He is fed up with the public scrutiny you get with a floated company but will take advantage of the free falling share price.

MA is doing everything possible to reduce the share price so that he can buy more on the cheap. He will take this private within a year and suddenly profits will return

We will look back at today as being the turning point for sports direct. A good Euro 16 and the do gooders back in their box, the share price is only going up. Every company has its good and bad bits. If employees are unhappy and can do better, move on to another company. If enough people leave, in my experience companies change. Unions and MPs achieve nothing. Have not seen the entire hearing but really hope that MA highlighted that not everyone can afford JD Sports prices. Last weekend my 12 year old son found the same track suit bottoms £10 cheaper in Sports Direct.

Cannot help but think that this share price is being deliberately pushed down to enable Mr Ashley to ake this private. All the bad news is being exagerated and not denied.

Can see further falls as people stop using this shop. Some truly horrible stories now coming out about life as a Sports Direct employee. Its a great shop to save money but if you buy from them you are encouraging further abuse of staff

More likely to be bought by private equity company than Tescos. Buy the company for the property assets and sell off the best sites to Tescos and Sainsbury, a few for residential development and some to Aldi and Lidl. 50% return in 3 yrs, simples

Is the new CEO mad or just power crazy. Either way he is going to do some serious damage to this company. Argos+Sainsburys=Tescos. Sainsburys+M&S = John Lewis. What does the UK need another Tescos or another JLP? Still do not understand the direction being taken.

A few greedy shareholders on this page. Take the offer from Sainsburys or wait for this company to go bust in a few years. Argos and Homebase are both dying formats at their best in the 80s that cannot survive in the current time. If I was a shareholder I would sell. Really hoping this does not go through as I have Sainsburys shares and think that it is a terrible move on their part
