Of course it's not a waste of time, POC is the future, but the future is a little bit further away than iclinicians and patients would like. NICE lab testing recommendation is proof of that. Manchester is leading POC testing which is great but it has been awarded funding to do so. Other trusts will use lab testing because they have no money to spend on POC testing and training. I've said for at least 2 years now that GDR should give the POC testing kit away for free, including free training and earn its money on the tests themselves. Similar to other business models eg printers and budget airline companies. Whether you like it or not you have to compete with lab testing , you need to convince trusts to buy a POC kit, from their own funds when the lab-tests are centrally funded.
BTW The AIHL test is still pending full NICE approval (ie centrally funded testing), I think Mr Budd mentioned it would take another 2 years before they expect full approval.
In the meantime , keep topping up!
