LC - not in all shares where you post but in many, you take a negative position and look to short.
this may in some cases be based on your view on fundamentals or perhaps based on the length of time that the present bull run has been ongoing. no doubt we are due for some corrections over the next 18 months, as in the period jan through to march. although that time round the ftse regained its losses.
my view is that its always best to plan forward as best as one can looking for events that can have effects on particular shares or the market as a whole.
i have over the last 12 months top sliced or sold out of shares where i felt they were running out of steam, and re positioned elsewhere.
since my first share purchase in 1981 i have seen several ups and downs in the market, and hey ho i aim still investing for both growth and income and my portfolio continues to perform.
its not too difficult in a bull run and i concede its more difficult in a bear market, but long term investing does seem to work.
it appears to me from your posts, that as someone setting short positions you struggle to understand the mindset of a longer term investor.
maybe thats because as you take short positions you have to be in the moment, so to speak
hence 1076 posts on vod in the last few weeks.
whereas you are looking to convince those with longer term plans to get in the moment like yourself.
perhaps you'll never see eye to eye with most on most of the bb's where you post.
i recall a poster called mortgage free, advising all in tlw, to get out and move across to hoc. a couple years ago. ODEY was heavily shorting tlw at the time. the sp did fall sharply, hoc also had a very strong leg up at the same time. mortgage free, took great delight in being right at that time.
for myself i doubled up on the fall somewhere just north off 130p in tlw - now i am substantially up on tlw, whereas hoc is now down in the dumps.
my point - mortgage free was right in the short term, not sure if he sold out for a profit or not. but i also took the right decision for myself.
perhaps you just need to concede there are many ways to invest., and many differing decisions and positions to take. many who take long term positions, are looking at 5- 10 year timeframes, and have the time and funds to take a relaxed longer term view.
its all a question of perspective, and everyone is entitled to their own views, some will agree with you others wont.
btw not invested here.
