TF - agree its well worth reviewing your portfolio, on a regular basis. Something i do when i buy for the medium to longer term is actually write down my reasons for buying a share and my expectations, at the time of buying. In the past i have found myself looking at a share i've been holding for a while and scratching my head, as to why it is sitting in my portfolio.
I split my shares into three sections :
- FTSE long termers - where short term sp movements don't concern me too much ( BP, FERG, GSK LGEN, NG,RIO,SN,ULVR ) Are a few i've held for some time now.
- Next are those where I like the share or my entry price, but the jury is still out on them, STOB fits into this section.
- then shares on my watchlist to trade, these i hope to get in and out quickly, on news, or sentiment.my trade on HUR yesterday was one of those. Only a small trade, in at 24.07p at 8.05 am and out again at 25.6p at 8.26p.
I've been reading these bb's for a number of years, and i have a small list of respected posters, who comment, either on a small number of shares, or sectors where they have expertise. in addition there are a few who have a broader knowledge, of markets, and geo political events, for these guys, I've gone back over their historic posts, and whilst they haven't called everything right and I've not always agreed with them i do feel they are genuine, and I respect their views, and read their posts most days.
I count myself lucky, am 60 now and was very fortunate, to retire 5 years ago with a reasonable but by no means large final salary pension. I'm not rich, by any means, just comfortable i'd say. What worries me, on some of the aim bb's is where posters feel they have to go all in on a potential multi bagger, sometimes losing their shirts on a share. I read too many posters saying that a certain penny share, is going to be their pension. Building a pension pot, should take 40 years, not 40 days or 40 weeks. I suspect, too many people are trying to take short cuts.
How often do you read someone posting that, a share is giving them sleepless nights, or that they have lost their savings. I genuinely hope, people have their long term monthly pension plans in place and are only investing on penny shares with their spare cash. But I suspect in many instances this is not the case.
Nit sure where all of the above came from lol
Anyway gla
