Actually I wonder if the lack of information is contributing to the slide. Although it looks like everything I have bought this year is taking a downer but most were utilities, the current flavor of the month for a kicking. Hopefully keep reinvesting the divis at a lower compounded rate will work ...... or was it Buffet or Keynes who said "The Market Can Remain Irrational Longer Than You Can Remain Solvent"

Markets coming off highs, divi concerns, new broom, FX there are lots of reasons to climb a wall of worry. Unfortunately she is now like Janet Yellen, every single word is jumped upon. I could mention the Woody thing but it looks harsh after him being kicked when he is down. He didn't sell GSK for capita did he. Hopefully he will be back on his high horse soon.

I think she might have been looking at it a while ago but its doubled in asking price as bidders have pushed it along. Hopefully there will be some careful bean counting and not a deal for the sake of it. Scale is fine but no point overpaying, RBS comes to mind!

I did well out of the deal and still have my Verizon shares. FX plays a part but can add another dimension to the PF. Too many read the media regarding massive windfalls and bought in for the action only to miss out because it was then priced in. Fortunately I was in before the announcement. A quick skeg shows Verizon up 15 percent and vod the same but downward direction, I havent looked at divis. Vod not bouncing after a bad day so maybe I need a new crystal ball too!

More buybacks on the horizon with Shell and Unilever not to mention National Grid. At least the latter paid some in cash! I dont think its clear what they are going to do. I think its a de-risking exercise just in case the worst happens. Will we get split shares?

Mike, yes I forgot to type in brackets "tongue firmly in cheek" after that sentence. I think its gives ammunition to the fat cat cries. Unfortunately I went against my own similar thoughts and added some more 7 percent plus divi just recently, more fool me maybe. Hopefully the growing, not well covered divi will make up a bit of that over the next year or two.

So the boards buyback resulted in them paying 14.38 per share so was that wise? I'm sure the remuneration committee have adjusted the eps targets for the boards bonus to negate the effects of this engineering. Not sure about the renewables thing, they seem to build them and then sell em on.

Well if my crystal ball was that clear I wood agree but only having a cloudy version I wouldn't know if it would get back down there. I think I would be tempted to collect the 8 percent divis and reinvest if it did fall. You looking at gaining 5 or 6 years divi over a lifetime of 8 percent. I suppose it depends on your time horizon. You have downside risk threshold and a chance at a growing divi in the future by not selling.

I have to admit I have not been following the buyback and from memory it was around �820m. I suppose you could add up all the rns amounts. So far all shares are worth less than they paid, well done board! So it must make sense to stop buying now the price is even lower. There was probably a timescale in the original announcement too. On the positive side buybacks tend to be longer term and less visable improvements and its saved the tax payers some dosh if it gets nationalised!

OldThor23, yes the Fool are renowned for doing contradictory articles within days of each other. Some say its different writers with different views. So who is the more accurate writer then? Sometimes you do pick up snippets of info from the articles so I would take the recommendations with a pinch of salt and the info in your for or against lists. Plus there are no timescales involved on when any value will be outed or any take on what sort of investor or trader it would suit. As always, DYOR seens sound advice

You dont think it might help reduce his tax bill, billionaires have different problems to the ordinary PI as well as differing aspects and outlooks.

I suppose we are all content after the last update and dont expect any fireworks in the near future. Maybe we need a scandal of some sort or another supermarket selling peas a penny cheaper or a look at the amount of plastic being chucked to get fingers typing. Its boring investing in companies just getting on with stuff on a daily basis ..... lets hope it says boring.
