It's no good railing against this, it's called democracy ; as you say it would be electoral suicide to vote otherwise.
It is not councillors being hypocritical, they are merely reflecting the hypocrisy of an unthinking electorate.

Yes, I'm sure. But that could also describe Westminster, most boardrooms, BBs, and even the bar of my local .
It's just how things work, frustrating as it sometimes is.
But I repeat, relax and wait.
