Apples shares may well indeed drop soon Wids, courtesy of reliance on IPhone sales but the share won’t drop on the back of buybacks.

The price was down when I typed Rob. If you look at the intra-day graph you will be able to see it’s been in negative territory today. So “I think I said originally that you would expect a slight drop when buyback finished” contradicts somewhat with “Share price is on the up this morning, kind of a demonstration of how much of an effect its had on actual share price” that you wrote this morning.

If buybacks are the equivalent of a slow poisioning, why hasn’t Apple’s price dropped too ? Could it be that other factors are at play with Lloyd’s instead of a 2.2% buyback ? Something lost on JR and Rob sadly.

If the figure for shares in issue is assumed to be correct on this site - shares bought back in calendar year 2018 = 1,578m, shares printed = 783m.

In 2017, no buybacks whilst shares printed = 600m

Rob, I wish you would stop connecting the two. If there had been no £1bn buyback, the 2008 share award would have gone through anyway and more shares would be in circulation diluting the share price. The buybacks and share awards are not connected.

It will no doubt cost a bit but putting passenger safety first is the responsible thing to do whilst it is established what the cause was. When a holiday company sells millions of holidays every year sadly these things happen from time to time. TUI passengers were slaughtered in Tunisia not that long ago and of course the Corfu deaths due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Hope the company gets it right this time as I’m sure it will.

May well drop a bit when there are no longer buybacks to prop the price up, but others will tell you they’re the source of the trickle downwards. Personally I think the drop is related to Brexit uncertainty in the main and the perception that we are in for a low interest rate environment for a while. As for where the price is going to bottom at is anyone’s guess. If you find out, let us all know please....lol
