You’re not wrong regarding cars. I recently purchased a virtually brand new car. I was almost frowned upon for paying for it up front. It’s standard practice at my workplace that the cabin crew go to work in better cars than the pilots. I guess this world of cheap debt is going to come crashing down again at some point. The lending habits pre the financial crash haven’t really changed much......

The worrying thing LastCall is that I remember paying a mortgage at 12% some 20 years or so ago. Interest rates will not go back to anything like that, but there are a lot of people out there who will be in trouble if rates rise by a few % because they’ve known nothing different for a decade.

I see the Motley Fool has pumped out a scare story about Lloyds today regarding credit defaults. The strange thing is there’ll be another article tomorrow no doubt by another one of their authors bigging Lloyds up as a buy.

Yes it will be interesting to see how oil plays out in the coming months. If Iran is preventing from exporting its crude supplies, there will be a demand squeeze moving prices upwards. The 5 year glut of oil reserves has already evaporated.

It’s too small to make a material difference is my take. A 2.2% buyback of a stock trading in the 60-70p range is not going to move it much. Where’s the snitch gone ? Or is he bored of this non-Brexit related chat ?

Apple too at the moment is buying back $100bn worth of stock. It’s valuation hit $1tn last week for the first time. Unfortunately Jamesroo thinks Lloyds is being held back by our £1bn buyback. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion I guess however bizarre it is......

Absolutely LastCall. The price of a barrel of oil is key to the oil companies share prices. All I’m saying is buybacks don’t have the negative impact on share prices that Jamesroo, Freya and a couple of others will try and have you believe.

Couldn’t agree more SUF. I hold BP myself. The internet is awash with articles about US companies who use spare cash to buy back their own stock and how favourably they compare in terms of percentage share price growth against companies that haven’t. I was joking of course. Just having a gentle dig at Jamesroo and Freya.

You give their negotiating stance too much credit Jayfax. It’s not been flexible in the least and is aimed at trying to make an example of us as a deterrent to others. This will run to the wire. The FTSE is a shade off its record so the City is seemingly unconcerned at present. I wouldn’t let it consume you like it does - it must be extremely stressful being bothered by it the whole time. Things have a habit of sorting themselves out. The City doesn’t seem bothered so relax 😎
