Voisey's Bay, Canada8 Sep 2023 11:52
Northern Ireland, County Fermanagh, from RNS dated 26/07/23, this comment interested me (and apologies for the ramble if this has already been discussed) -
"ODM has been a key contributor to numerous discoveries worldwide, including the Voisey's Bay Ni-Cu-Co deposit in
Labrador, Canada".
It appears that two land masses collided to form of the island of Ireland. The southern one from Eurasia, the northern one (including County Fermanagh) from modern North America. From continental drift mapping through the ages, there looks a distinct possibility that County Fermanagh was connected closely with Labrador in Canada many millions of years ago. KDR have now secured access to 750sqkm of County Fermanagh, which is nearly half of the County.
The host rock to the copper-nickel deposit at Voisey's Bay is a type of gabbro. A brief geological search of County Fermanagh shows a section of gabbro to the west of the County. Is the significance of sending the stream sediment samples to ODM, an assumption that they analysed the same gabbro in the 90s when they discovered the Voisey's bay deposit?
As we have no results yet, I'm not suggesting we have anything remotely similar, but it's worth knowing that the Voisey's Bay deposit was bought by Inco in 1996 for $4.3 billion.
Whilst everyone (including myself) are focused on the Kuhmo exploration programme, does the NI sampling have the potential to be equally as exciting? Until we know otherwise, I'd say it is.
