The awful events in Ukraine have shocked the world. Politicians and many, many countries have found their voice, decisions are being made and actions taken. Support for Ukraine is widespread, people want to distance themselves from Russia and become more self-sufficient.
We need to wean ourselves off Russian oil, gas and raw materials as much as possible.
Sweden must certainly be worried and if there ever was a time to decide our case, then now is the time. My opinion only.

Exactly Suzy2. It certainly took the Sami quite a while to realise this small and very specific area of land was of such vital importance to reindeer husbandry.

Perhaps the pasture is very rich grazing due to the very high and pure iron content?!

If we get a yes decision I think there will be a real “changing of the guards” so far as Beowulf investors are concerned.

Some, having held for many years, will be pleased to sell out at a nice profit. Who could blame anybody for realising profits by selling part or all of their shareholding after all this time.

As some sell others will move in , looking at the longer term picture- a journey which ,for them, is only just beginning. Bem will become increasingly attractive to institutional investors and predators.

I can’t wait to see how this all develops.

We have been told many times the decision must be based on the law. On that basis it should be a yes.

A mine will regenerate the area and provide new jobs. It will generate profits and taxes , to go towards continuing subsidies for the Sami. Sami children will not all wish, or indeed be able, to become reindeer herders. They may wish to have more and varied employment opportunities so they can learn new skills and continue living in the area. I imagine, at the moment, some will have no alternative but to leave home and move away to the bright city lights?

Mining and reindeer herding can work side by side. Life moves on and people can adapt, as we always have done.

I think it unlikely Thor will make any comments or hints before a decision. The deadline has now passed for submissions and he has to make a decision after weighing everything up.

The less said the better in my view. Comments and hints prior to a decision would risk stirring up a hornets nest, it would also be very bad form and he could be accused of pre-judging things and market manipulation.

I think we just have to wait - difficult though it is!

This saga has rumbled along for years and Thor will be well aware of all the delaying tactics by both the Sami and Government Ministers. I am surprised he has allowed more time to the Sami - if you have strong objections to anything you don’t need to be given extra weeks to think what those objections are, or indeed dream up new ones! Any attempts to delay matters will be seen as what they are. Enough is enough.

Kurt has put our case clearly and Thor probably doesn’t need to meet with him, it is all there in black and white. I suspect he wants to be seen as listening to the Sami and making sure they cannot come back at him to say otherwise.

With regard to “competing land uses”, the point is the mine has to be above the minerals - it cannot be moved whereas reindeer can graze anywhere. A “No”on Kallak would have a 100% negative impact on Beowulf. A “Yes” on Kallak would have less than 1% impact on Sami land use because of the very small area of land involved.

Time now for Thor to step up to the plate and make a decision.

I first bought into Beowulf 11 years ago at 49.5 p! I got caught up in the hype. A glutton for punishment I have added and averaged down over the years and now show a healthy profit.

The previous CEO was abrasive and arrogant. Kurt has been the exact opposite. He has quietly transformed the Wulf by a thoroughly professional approach, building relationships, working with people and diversified the business by commodity and geographically. He actually responds to emails!

Slowly the company has matured. The recent announcement re Vaasa in Finland referred to being received with a “ warm and collaborative welcome”. I believe Kurt has illustrated that here is an honest, respectful company that wishes to mine in a responsible manner and can be a trusted partner.

Beowulf has a great future.

Rickmeister, I think you may well be right. It seems to me the Sami have , to date, shown no willingness to find any compromise and I believe they have not had any meaningful meetings with Kurt, despite him trying to build up a relationship with them.
Beowulf have altered their plans to accommodate Sami concerns and done all they can to show mining and herding can live alongside each other. To have a basis for negotiation both sides need to wan’t to have a good outcome. It simply can’t happen if one party isn’t prepared to meet up and talk.
So,yes, I think it is time for the Sami to realise they are not the only ones who wish to live and work in this location. There are other stakeholders to consider - they to have a right to live and work.
