Saw that, the lawyers have been quite scathing toward the Appeal Court. Going off the last hour, I watched, I suspect this will go in favour of the Bank's.

The only thing QBT have visibly produced, so far, are jam tomorrow PRN's that have temporarily pumped the share price. I'll be very surprised if QBT release a successful product, going off their previous track record.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. NG are looking at pumping a large amount of money into upgrading the Grid, which may be dependent on the the result of REMA (Review of Electricity Market Arrangements). I believe NG are advocating for something called Nodal or locational marginal pricing (LMP), whereas Octopus and OFGEM are pushing for Zonal Energy Pricing. I expect NG are awaiting the result of REMA to decide where to target a good percentage of their Grid investments, but your guess is as good as mine which is why I thought it was worth discussing. It's looking as though the old national pricing structure will disappear, as a lot of prominent commentators are pushing for change; What most consumers care about is seeing lower bills.

That refers to the old Economy 7 meters, where service is being is switched off, so anyone who's currently on Economy 7 can keep their old meters they just wont benefit from the current Economy 7 cheap rate tariff. No one is being forced to do anything, users have the choice to take advantage of the new technology, or pay more for their electricity.

Just to add to my last post, the second image was taken before the communications hub was fitted below the new isolator switch, with a cable connected to my new smart meter which is already fitted in the second picture.

Nobody forced a smart meter on me, in fact I had to push to get one fitted. There wasn't enough room to replace my old meter with a smart meter, due to the increased size of the new meter with a communications hub. I had to get an Electrician in to replace the 100A isolator with something smaller.

The reason I pushed for a smart meter is because I was having Solar PV fitted, and it isn't worth it without a smart meter. Because of my PV, over this month I'm on target to export four times more electricity than I import, so I'll be in credit for my electricity this month and it's only March.

I'm having a heat pump installed in May so my electricity consumption will go up, especially in winter, but my solar battery can import from the grid during cheap rate periods and make use of the cheaper electricity during the more expensive periods of the day. A smart meter allows me to make money from exporting my excess electricity during the day and my battery powers my house during the night, and in winter it allows me to take advantage of cheap rate tariff's. I'm not sure why everyone is against smart meters, they should use them to their advantage.

The grid is complex because of the way wholesale electricity is priced, basically the rest of the country is subsidising the South East of England under a national pricing model. I think people like Greg Jackson are arguing that a Zonal pricing system will encourage business to go where energy is cheapest, requiring less grid upgrading, but that would also mean lower bills everywhere because of the national savings made under a new system.

Bloomer, I believe the current high electricity prices are due the way the wholesale price of electricity is calculated. Under the current system they use marginal cost pricing, where units of electricity are sold at the price of the most expensive unit needed to meet demand at a particular moment in time. The most expensive electricity is that produced by the gas fired power stations used to back up the renewables when the sun isn't shining or the wind blowing.

Greg Jackson, founder of Octopus, is pushing for Zonal Energy Pricing where the electricity market is separated into geographical zones with prices varying based on local supply, demand, and grid capacity.

The electricity producers want to maintain the status quo, since they're making big money out of the current marginal cost pricing system and they are anything but evangelist, except when it comes to making money from us.

Obviously there are various vested interests in the opposing camps, but the current situation needs resolving fast since high energy costs drive out industry and damage household finances.

Koolkat, investing £40k in a stock like QBT is super risky, as low daily volumes and values could easily lock you in.

On some days the total daily trading value is well below £40k, so any proportionally large trades could swing the share price either way. You'd have to trade on high volume days to ensure your trades don't move the price; QBT is a rubbish stock to trade for that reason.

A Starlink terminal costs around £300 and the service around £75 a month. The dish is heated as required with a phase array antenna, the set up requires more electricity than a fibre ONT and standard router. If you're rural and have reasonable terrestrial internet connectivity, you can use WiFi calling on your phone via your home router, or with a gateway device. Direct Satellite to mobile has limited use in countries like the UK. I'm not sure how Vodafone would benefit from the service in the UK, it might be a different matter in Africa and India. As I said previously, remote villages in Third World countries would be better of with a small 5g cell and a satellite terminal with a dish, which would give faster and better connectivity.
