RE: Ryan resigns as leader of the Greens20 Jun 2024 11:23
Unfortunately, the mindset of many green supporters is left wing. Excesses to the left are more difficult to identify than excesses to the right because the core motivations are portrayed as humane and beneficial to all in society and in this case the planet. However, the methods adopted are often derived from an 'oppressor v oppressed' assessment of the situation. This leads to situations such as this where oil and gas companies are viewed as the 'oppressor', an enemy that must be destroyed. Recent history proves that far left governance has been far more destructive than even far, far right. Ryan regrets what he considers an incorrect narrative that the greens are not concerned about rural ireland. But that is exactly what happens when far left attitudes are adopted. Instead of labling oil and gas companies as the enemy they should be adopting an approach like norway, maximise income from all of their available resources and use the revenue to accelerate the development of sustainable souces of energy whilst minimising socio-economic impacts. But that is not the way their minds work. All they think is 'the planet is burning, oil and gas companies are the enemy, lets destroy them'. Of course they do this forgetting that everything that makes them the most privileged society in the history of the world has been derived from the development of fossil fuels and hydro carbons.
